Loaded Pokemon Platinum and an Old Save (.SAV) from my computer since I lost my old R4.

Messed around a bit, saved, then a few hours later opened it up to find out it was back to where it was before I saved.

When I first got my new R4, all I did was download the 1.18 Update from the official site, dragged them to my memory card, then put the card in the R4.

Is there anything I did wrong?

You're using 1.18. I heard Pokemon Platinum had saving problems that were fixed by a patch or YSMenu or Wood R4 or something. But I'd try Wood R4. That has so far fixed EVERYTHING.

The regular R4 kernel from the official site is extremely outdated. At worst, use R4li's R4 kernel, but its generally recommended to have either YSMenu or WoodR4. Technically, YSMenu is jack easy to figure out (abeit slightly complicated to set up), but because it's easy, its UI eyecandy-wise is lacking, whereas WoodR4 has a couple extra things, but it looks great, has roughly the same compatibility with roms (give or take a couple).

I believe all three can play with Platinum (not so sure about R4li's firmware, but definitely the other two can).
