So I missed out on a supposedly excellent deal involving the Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury Tri-X for $300 (I woke up right after they ran out of stock), and I feel kinda bummed because of it. This whole time I have be waiting to get the Sapphire Nitro RX 480, but the R9 Fury line is considered the top cards from AMD at this time until the Vegas roll out around next year, and I could have gotten one. I'm only kinda bummed out because while performance-wise, the R9 Fury beats the RX 480 by quite a bit, it is limited to 4GB because the RAM type (HBM 1.0), putting a damper in it being future-proof. It also needs a much stronger PSU by comparison too, as I believe is missing some improved features like 4K@60 encoding. If I had the opportunity to get a R9 Fury for that price again, I don't know whether I would make the jump.

What would you choose between the two, and why?

I would go with the R9 Fury since it has a lot more raw performance to offer over the RX480. Sure, the RX480 is less power hungry and possibly cooler(with custom cards coming out). But for 300 usd, the R9 Fury was a steal since it goes head to head with a GTX980 to begin with. And the DX12 gains will be pretty noticeable in the upcoming titles.

You've also got the option to but a GTX1060 and OC it to perform as much as the 980, if not better. It's got better thermals and waaay low power consumption when compared to the R9 Fury.
A little birdie told me that the custom EVGA GTX1060 versions will be in stock tomorrow on their official website.

Well, I kinda decided to go AMD this time (upgrading from a GTX 560 Ti), mainly because of getting a Freesync monitor, that even if the frame rate dips, it can still look relatively smooth. I did read that the 1060 works well for DX11 games, but with DX12 and Vulkan-based games, the AMD cards jump forward.

That's true, AMD has some good cards right now. I'm gonna go for the AMD too, this time. Just waiting for Zen and Vega. Happy gaming!

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

    not really

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced

    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
