Slipped in among the various topics covered in IGN's latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast was an interesting little rumor: a "major online title" coming to Wii in 2009 won't require Friend Codes. How? Evidently the developer simply realized it could pull it off -- and, like most gamers, doesn't care for the restrictive system.

Speculation as to what game IGN was referencing (which, according to the site, has already been announced) quickly brought up The Conduit, the upcoming FPS from High Voltage Software and Sega. Joystiq has confirmed via a source familiar with the title's development that it does, in fact, utilize the Friend Code system, and isn't the game in question. So, what is it then? Let the speculation commence.

If this rumor does prove true, I'm hoping a fad follows soon after with other developers dumping the friend code system. Perhaps even an online Miitag, but we all know that won't happen

. But as to what the game is....DUN DUN DUN

^^^ Medal of Honor 2...

I have this game... it has the 'EA Lobby', which you have to register via a valid email address on your Wii.

It's a lot nicer. No friend codes, just your in game name, like XBL.

This is a good development for the online gamers on the Wii. The online part really should be better, it's quite frustrating if you see how good the 360 is at online play.

MS already told us that ONLINE is the next big thing
smile.gif

Sadly it is never reflected in xbox 360 sales

Face it online is a niche market until things like World of Warcraft or alike game lands on your console

360 sales are quite good.

I'd like to hear what you think are good sales numbers.

Being outsold 2 to 1 in the states on a daily basis isnt what i call next gen console sales figures that are impressive especially when the system outselling it is according to some gamecube 1.5.

why nintendo would create such a system in the first place in beyond me...

To keep it simple and pay no extra money to make the connection better.

No, It's all about safety with Nintendo. That is why the friend codes exist.

When they created it on the DS, it was fine, there was nothing much you could do on the DS anyway.. and there was no other online system to compare.
Since it was working fine on the DS, they decided to stick to it on the Wii.. but, by that time there was better stuff already.

About the game.. it's probably something from EA since they already have experience with that.. and I can't think about anything from EA that I would care :/

I wasn't comparing to Wii sales and your above post wasn't referring to it either.

I was saying that the 360 has great sales and that was all.
