I've seen this pop up a couple times now on PS3 scene sites.

I've been ignoring it basically. PSV is not out, and who knows what this really means. If its hackable now does not mean it will be when its released.

Actually, since the thing isn't even out yet, that means absolutely nothing. This was probably from an early build.

Sony will obviously fix this before it releases in japan. If the jp vita get hacked using any other exploit, you can count on the fact they will fix whatever exploit was used in the US and europe versions.

Yes, but SKFU contributed to the PS3 scene before, Dinoh. I'm not saying I believe this, I'm saying there's a high chance that this is true.

PSVita isn't even released yet.

I call this BS until proven otherwise with confirmed evidence.

The 3DS dev unit was out in the wild in public hands way before it was even release. Maybe someone got hold of something similar.

Up until this day only saved games and some? files are decrypted of the 3DS.
So it's highly unlikely someone could make a firmware extractor and a decrypter in a small amount of time for the PSV.

I wasn't talking about what could or has been done, I just stated people can get hold of these devices before it is released.

The article says the Vita's PKG is decrypted by PSP’s AES keys If sony has reused the same keys in Vita then it's not gonna take a long time, is it?

I know that of the 3DS dev unit that was smuggled of the production line in the Foxconn factory.
Maybe it could be the same for the PSVita.

But Sony signing the Vita with PSP encryption keys!?
Thats basically the same as attaching a note to the retail kit saying:
Hi,
These are the encryptions keys for signing your pirated games.

I almost think part of the charm of Sony systems is how wide open their security holes are. You exploit their system, and suddenly you can do almost anything with it. If the Vita gets hacked, I'll buy one.

Not really, no. The Xbox 360 has been hacked for a long while, and yet I don't recall there ever being anything cool to do on it besides piracy.

I hope this isn't true. For the PSP to be hacked with the same AES keys that were already leaked, they should have learned something. If it's only on dev units and the key for actual production units is different, then Sony has learned. If not, Sony apparently isn't even trying to stop homebrew and hacking anymore. I hope they are smarter than that. If they can't learn to secure their systems, they should bow out of the market humbly, and with what little dignity they have left. A joke is that the n in Sony is actually 2 r's, with one mirroring the other. Sorry.

On the other hand, if this isn't true, and Sony has in fact learned and the PSP Vita hasn't been hacked, then we can at least know they are taking security seriously for once. Until this rumor is confirmed, I'm going to sit back and watch the scene.

the dvd firmware has been hacked, not the actual system (well technically with jtag and the recent reset glitch it is fully hacked but there is just not enough interest, all anybody cares about is pirating games)

Which is exactly my point. The PS2, 3, and PSP all have tons of quality homebrew/tools.

last I checked there was nothing but crappy homebrew on the PS3 (emulators dont count)
same for the PS2
