Whats the skinny on the L2/Clock options in Rosalina and how do they differ from enabling them in Luma?

Not quite sure what you are asking here as rosalina is built into Luma

    Exactly what I said.

    Or to be more verbose:

Changing L2/Clock in Rosalina seems to do absolutely nothing in comparison to setting it from the Luma config. Tried it with a game that crashes when overlocked and irrespective of what it says in Rosalina it crashed and booted perfectly when running at regular speeds in Luma so, once again:

There should be no difference the clock spped option in the luma options menu just activates the clock speed option that rosalina uses. As I said rosalina is part of luma. It even says so on the official luma website.

New 3DS CPU: Force the higher clock rate and/or extra L2 cache even on games/applications that do not officially support it. This can have performance benefits but a few rare games have stability issues with it. There are four options:

    • Off: Clock/L2 not forced, stock system behavior.
    • Clock: The New 3DS CPU will run at 804MHz instead of 268MHz even in games that are not New 3DS-enhanced if this option is selected.
    • L2: The New 3DS' extra L2 cache will be enabled for games that do not normally support it.
    • Clock+L2: The previous two options, combined.
    • Note: Clock/L2 are also toggleable once the 3DS is already booted, via Rosalina.

So you're saying that the speed options in Rosalina only affect Rosalina activities and have nothing to do with the game you're playing?

If so I'd agree with that.

Go and try Ridge Racer. It loads the menus etc until you get to the point when you're about to race and the n3DS will blackscreen and freeze if its overclock/L2 enabled via Luma.

Playing with the options in Rosalina does nothing in that sense as it still crashes but if you turn off the OC/L2 in Luma then play around with it in Rosalina to enable it obviously doesn't as the game plays like its regular clock mode.

If thats the case then what is the point of this option as I thought it was in the Rosalina menu so you could switch it on and off for will for situations like this with titles that aren't compatible?

This is not an overclock. See it as the normal cpu power. Disabling this option slows down the "New 3DS Only" Games. Let it enabled in the luma config and you're good to go.

What I want is to have OC/L2 enabled in Luma and be able to turn it off from the Rosalina menu without having to power off/reboot the n3DS.

    Is that possible?

You don't have to power off the console. Just disable it through rosalina if you want and close rosalina menu. That's all. Or disable it permanently in the luma config.

It turns out you can disable the OC/L2 but in order for it to "stick" you must do it in game, not in the 3DS menu.

Great feature, if poorly explained. Hopefully this clarifies it for anyone else wondering.

Disabling it works in the 3ds menu ;) So, i dunno what's wrong with your 3ds.

It sounds like you can only toggle it in Rosalina if it's already enabled in the Luma config. I suppose something has to be loaded at boot time for it to work, and if the setting is disabled, that thing is never loaded.

    Oh, I misread.
I guess that toggle is just broken then.
Maybe take it up on the Github issue tracker?
