You mean Free DLC as the base for customs? That might be what happens at first, then hopefully we can get it so that the file has absolutely no trace of the base dlc, therefore being legal.
 
I'll try to swap my Wii region tonight (this afternoon for those of you who live in America)!

But I will need a WAD of the NTSC Wii Shop Channel... Which isn't legal afaik...
 
Thanks I'm just switching from PAL to NTSC right now then i'll use the IOS51 & Wii Shop Channel Updater to get the latest NTSC Shop Channel.

I'll then try to download some DLC, will edit this post if it works, switch back to PAL and see if my DLC still work!

And I'll try not to brick my Wii!

EDIT: Everything is done and I can't even connect to the Music Store... ("Unable to connect to the Internet. Confirm the Internet settings of the Wii console.")
I've reinstalled IOS 51, Wii Shop Channel, checked my internet settings... Everything's OK but I can't connect to the Wii Shop Channel (Error 205958).
I've tried a quick online play on RB2 and could play...

Ill switch back to PAL now as NTSC video on a PAL TV looks weird!

If anybody wants to keep trying, you'll have to find a working NTSC-U Wii Shop Channel, if it still doesn't work this way then it might be because of the European IP adress.
 
Your wii will need to be the correct region AND you will need the NTSC version of the game. You won't be able to use DLC downloaded for NTSC in a PAL version of the game (without serious hacking).
 
I believe most people have the NTSC game as I don't believe it's out in Pal yet. Anyhow I am pretty sure there is a tool for changing the region of your shop channel.

Well I have all 20 of the free dlc currently awaiting to be injected when someone finally hacks DLC. Hopefully someday there will be a tool similar to Ghost (for GH3/GHA customs)to make everything idiot proof for me. I almost wish I had a hard drive for my PS2 since customs are up and running for the PS2.
 
Oh right, forgot about that. I do know you definitely need to go into the wii shop channel at least once after changing your region to create a new account before you can download any DLC, including free tracks.

So I guess that's why it doesn't work.
 
If anybody wants to make a Region Free AND Trucha Signed WAD with all the free DLCs that would be awesome as we don't even know when RB2 will be released outside North America

Even if someone did it wouldn't work because:
- you need to have properly downloaded at least one track so the DLC catalog is stored in the savefile
- you can't download any tracks for NTSC-U rockband without a NTSC-U shop account

You would need to get a US savefile along with the keys of the wii used to save it, decrypt it, figure out the extra encryption on the rockbnd2.dat file and edit it to remove the other person's details (unless you wanted to impersonate them online), re-encrypt rockbnd2.dat, re-encrypt the whole savefile using your wii's keys (good luck, none of the existing save packers will handle a rb2 save so you'll have to write your own), copy it onto your wii and then install the DLC wad.

Or you could just wait a couple of weeks for the PAL version to come out.

that's too bad I did thought you could trucha sign a Wad pretty easily...

Anyway I think I'll wait... it should come out this year in Europe!
 
Spare a thought for the aussies who never even got Rock Band 1.
The problem isn't making the DLC wad, it's getting the game to recognize it after the wad has been installed. If you've never properly downloaded a track there won't be a DLC catalog in the savefile.

Hey Heathcliff, I have a hunch you should try this again. But before you run anyregion changer, go into the wii shop, go to settings/other and remove your shop account. Be warned that this may remove any purchases you've made and you'll have to pay/use a wad if you want to reinstall them. I can't confirm or deny if this is fact because people have given conflicting stories.
Also, you'll have to delete your RB2 savegame - use anytitle deleter, go into the 00010000 category and delete SZAE.
Once that's done run ARC and change the shop country code (to US) and set services EULA to read. Don't change anything else. Save, reboot to sysmenu and go into the wii shop. Skip thru the boring intro screens and it should create a new US account without giving error 205958. Once you get to the normal wii shop main menu you can exit, then start RB2 and see if you can download some free tracks.

If you don't want to delete your RB2 save you could try it without that step but I can't guarantee it will work.
 
It sounds it could work! I'll try this tonight! But I have to make a backup from my RB2 save first!!

IT WORKS!!!

European people: erase your Wii Shop account and your RB2 Save, change the shop code to 49 and log into the Wii Shop Channel, go back to system menu then go to the Rock Band 2 Music Store and start downloading!

I'll try to put my original save back and see if I can still play my freshly downloaded free DLC
