The PS2 has finally stopped being produced in Japan, the last big country that still sold PS2s. After 150 million consoles sold, the PS2 is the highest selling console to date. After all these years one of the greatest consoles ever is finally laid to rest.

I, for one, will be celebrating this with a nice all day PS2 gaming session. Some of my most fond memories of gaming has involved the PS2, so I'm sad to see it go, but it had a great run.

As far as large libraries go, only the Snes ever matched the PS2's sheer volume of excellent games.

PS2 was Sony's best console well at least when it comes to software and pretty much confirms the whole "It's not about the hardware, its about the software!" argument.

After the PS2 it was all down hill.... Maybe things will improve with the PS4?

I am so happy I have 3 spare model 7's. One of them should last me long enough for emulation of the PS2 to be perfected... lol

It sucks that Sony would discontinue the PS2 without releasing a backwards compatible successor. Seriously. WTF Sony? How are we gonna play PS2 games? It's not like hundreds of millions were sold and practically everyone has one.

Regardless of whether games were being made for it, it's library is effing huge and people were still buying the hardware.

Because the majority next generation of gamers don't care about the PS2 and it's amazing library. The PS2 had an amazing run, but I think it's finally time to let it rest. Besides, there were 150million sold, it's not like you couldn't find a used one somewhere.
