What the ???

Riivolution replaces files from the disc on the fly with files from sd card. That's what it does, right? Where's your problem guys? You can replace files with WiiScrubber and use the same patches that are created for Riivolution.
Not in the case of NSMBWii
Yes, in the case of MSMBWii. Anything Riivolution can change, CAN be changed by using WiiScrubber and a DVD Burner. ANYTHING. The only advantage Riivolution has over manually replacing the files (other than not needing to modify the ISO) is that Riivolution can use files larger then the original files more easily (if I recall correctly)
Usually the game crashes when starting up after changing the levels.
Not when done properly. Someone should put up a guide soon enough.

Gah! And I was looking forward to trying out custom music without having to recompress and shit. What a bunch of hypocrites. I mean, Riivolution is used to, among other things, switch out game music with custom music, most of which will have been downloaded illegally. But let's make it incompatible with backups because, uh, that's illegal!

Or instead of calling people out on supposed hypocrisy you could read into the issue and understand that, since the program depends on patching IOS on the fly, it's limited by its very nature to using a specific revision of a specific IOS to do its job at all. It's not like you can just tell it to run off of IOS249 and it magically works.

Not. Backup disk is PIRACY!!!

I play Riivolution with my retail discs and runs very excellent!!! I can play retail japanese MHG with english translate patch or can play retail NSMB Wii with portuguese translate patch!!

Original wins!!
Piracy is ugly and illegal!!

I don’t understand how Riivolution is hypocritical because you pirate music FAIL... I mean FAII.
I see English might not be your first language. If the makers of Riivolution actively made it incompatible with backups, then they're hypocrites because their very program is widely used to suppleant in-game music with pirated music, so why actively make the program incompatible with backups? Also, they had no choice but to program it this way, then it's unfortunate and they aren't hypocrites at all. But if they did it purposefully, then they are hypocrites.

Backups work fine as long as you have a chip installed. My WiiKey 1 works fine with Riivolution using a backup of Fatal Frame IV.

But is there a way to do it without installing a chip?

BTW, since my last post was deleted: If it is indeed merely an IOS issue and the makers of Riivolution didn't intentionally make it incompatible with backups, then that's unfortunate. But if they did intentionally make it incompatible with backups, then they really are hypocrites.

And since my post was deleted, I’ll respond to say that the Riivolution creators are not responsible for you pirating music, anymore than the shopping mall is responsible from stopping you from entering because you stole from the gas station across the street. We get it, you just wanna pirate shit, right? Stop flaming others because the world does not bend before your desire to be extremely tight fisted.

QUOTE(FAII @ May 10 2010, 03:10 PM) BTW, since my last post was deleted: If it is indeed merely an IOS issue and the makers of Riivolution didn't intentionally make it incompatible with backups, then that's unfortunate. From what I understand, they simply blocked anything that could interfere with the IOS and cause program instability. This included conscious decisions to outright block several piracy-friendly apps and methods. Compliance with these alternative loading methods would produce a lot more work, more problems, and more annoying questions for the Riiv devs and was deemed unnecessary for non-ethics-related reasons.

I think the policy is and always will be that Riivolution is made for the largest possible userbase and has been designed to be compatible with and accessible to all Wii owners, which it is. It works perfectly for that which it was designed.

Rather than call people hypocrites, if file swapping with backups is that important to you there is nothing preventing you from coding your own homebrew.

I agree with you.

With my D2Pro9 mine failed to read as well. Even original discs failed, which I don't understand. Disc channel and everything else works fine though.

I find it hilarious that the "MAKE RIIVOLUTION WORK WITH PIRACY!!!1!13%$" threads are still going on.

If you want to replace files so badly ... then use WiiScrubber or SNEEK. Practically everyone is still completely missing the point of Riivolution - it's a tool designed so that users of retail disks can modify files in their games (which pirates have been able to do for a long time already).

Treeki, it's understandable, but what we all want isn't just a version of Riivolution that is friendly with backup discs (although it would be nice, and not at all difficult to implement if we had the source or if the developers were so inclined), but a version that works with USB Loaders.
Why?
Because copying some files onto a SD is a lot easier then copying an ISO off your USB HDD, extracting it with WiiScrubber, replacing the files, remaking the index file (I forget what it's called), recreating the ISO, changing the TitleID, then copying it back to the USB HDD.

And if you say that legitimate users have no need for this (or, indeed, backup loader compatibility) you're just as bad as those who are demanding the feature be supported.

Here's what I don't get - why can't the developers support legitimate users and backup loaders by implementing the prevention methods the HBC has for duplication, and requiring a legit disc of NSMB to validate on installing of the channel for use.
It isn't going to change much - the only pirates who it won't stop are the hard modders and SNEEK users, and it doesn't stop them anyway.

And if you say they don't want to, fine, but there is no denying that the whole anti-backup thing makes no damn sense. "You want faster loading speeds? A SHAME ON YOU DIRTY PIRATE! NO USEFUL FEATURE FOR YOU!"

I just want it to work with my BOUGHT LEGIT DISC but I guess since I have a modchip, it won't work.

You guessed wrong... if it don't work when you use a retail copy of the disk and you have a modchip... you must have one messed up modchip.

Anyways, this is silly, riivolution is never gonna have backup support. Done and Done. Why don't the pirates just make a usb loader that reads custom files off an sd card, oh wait... there is one????

Lol you are wrong completely. Its not even a guess, its a fact. If every other single fucking disc program for the Wii including back up loaders, usb loaders, disc channel, geckoOs and everything else. Then this should, but as stated above the more expensive better mod chips have an auto boot function and other awesome stuff which flags this program.

Make a new app... I'm sure there has to be at least one hacker out there with the know how and desire to...

Just stop bitching that someone else should do it for you, and that someone should change what they want their own creative work to be.

Whynot go start a New thread gathering knowledge about "USB LOADER WITH SD FILE SUPPORT", wouldn't that be a lot more productive than coming here telling someone else what they did should do exactly what you want it to?

This. I, myself, have no coding expertise, but I don't see any reason why someone who does, and knows how to implement all the proper calls, etc. can't do it, all they need is time and a lot of caffeine!

Lol where in that did I suggest or tell someone that they should do something. I didn't dumbass. All I said was that it should work because everything else works, but it doesn't. I didn't tell them to make it work, or have it work with back-ups or anything. I have no problem with them blocking piracy, its their program, they made it, its free. So no one should be telling them to do stuff, I am not. I am just sharing what I have been able to do with this program.
