Introduction
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Nintendo released its last major Mario game by the name of Super Mario Bros. 3. continuing upon the series for the NES. It is regarded as one of the best selling video games when combined with the many remakes ( Super Mario Advance 4, and Super Mario All-Stars ). This game is also the first game that shows Bowser’s kids, the Koopa Kids.
The story begins with Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach, and it’s up to Mario and Luigi to save her. However, the only way they can save Peach, is by going to each of the 7 kingdoms and retrieving the magic wands from the castle, which will release her from Bowser’s magic.

Gameplay - 10
The Super Mario Bros. has always been the classic jump and run style of gaming and it’s no different in this game. You can jump to destroy various enemies as well as stealing their shells ( some enemies drop shells, i.e. Koopas ) and throwing them at oncoming enemies. Many people will lose lives over and over again ( like me ), because the game is pretty challenging as it progresses, but all games should give us a bit of frustration and challenge.
In SMB3, Nintendo also introduced a new way of traveling through levels. Once you finish a level, you can now choose which stage you want to play, via. a fantastic looking animated map. You could also gain items by battling the Hammer Bros. and choosing to play levels where a mushroom resides.
Like in all Mario games, there are also items to help you fight your way to Bowser, and in SMB3, there are also 6 new items, most noticeably the leaf, which gives Mario the power to fly.
There are 8 stages in total and has a total of 90 levels and is the only game in the series to have that many.

Graphics – 8
The graphics are very colorful and vibrant resulting in everything coming alive and beautiful. The animations are also very smooth and fluid. But since it is an upgrade from a game based on the NES, it’s nothing that spectacular, but still great.

Sound – 9
The catchy and classic songs and sound effects have been upgraded to GBA quality and are very good. Also, Nintendo decided to add some “here we go!” and “ya-hoo!” to Mario. The sound aspect of the game is excellent in my opinion and I loved every tune.

Replay – 9
This game is definitely a highly replayable game. There are so many levels to choose from and each has its own style of play, so there is always a challenge. Plus, implemented is the arcade game Mario Bros. so you can always have fun whenever you’re just not feeling SMB3-ish. Also, if you happen to have the E-Reader, you can always download new levels to play!

Conclusion
Overall, this game is a must for everyone that has a GBA. There’s a reason this game is one of the best selling game of all-time and it’s because of the fantastic gameplay, graphics and sound all added up. If you want an outstanding platform-styled game, then this is a must for you!

SCORE = 8.5/10
