How do you save settings for each core?
Also, I have seen box art and system icons. How is that done?

To save settings for each core, I had to follow this guide:
https://forums.libretro.com/t/how-to-use-per-core-config/5468/2
Couldn't get thumbnails to work tho - using the same names as roms in the playlist didn't give results for some reason...

Edit: I have to mention that using settings per core brings a little bug - you can't really "chainload" roms, you have to first close the content you're playing, and then load the next rom, or there will be bugs.

Which version of RA you use about playlist?
Anyway you dont need rom name, but picture name, and make sure you delete the extension from pic name in playlist file
If you rom, for instance, Super Double Dragon (U).smc, you can use a pic named Super Double Dragon USA.png, and make sure you use .png format and nothing else.

So in playlist file you got
ux0:/data/Snes9x/Final Fight 3 (U).smc <--- rom path
Final Fight 3 USA <--- picture name (without .png extension)
app0:/snes9x2005_libretro.self <--- core name/path
app0:/snes9x2005_libretro.self <--- core name/path (dont ask me why double, but it needed)

Seems I had to rearrange folder structure, but now it works - so it's <thumbnails directory name> / <playlist name> / Named_<Boxarts|Snaps|Titles> / <rom name as in the playlist>.png

From BoxArt or Snap pics you must chose one of them from RA menu
thumbnails directory name just named "thumnails" LOL
The rest is Ok, but pic is not forced to have rom name, i told you. I use different name without problems. Just remember to put correct name of the pic in playlist file.

Cuz that rom ain't the same as the one on the list of NoIntro project.

I copy this explaining from Reddit. Next time try a Google search ;)
"The problem you're encountering is that for some undocumented reason the scanner in RetroArch only scans for ROM's from the No-Intro ROMsets. The scanner is doing CRC checks against each file file, and will only create an entry if it matches the CRC for the title in the corresponding system's no-intro rom list.

If you're on Windows, you can use the Playlist creator for RetroArch on Windows (Google it, cuz don't know if the link has warez). This script will simply scan directories and create playlist entries for the files it finds, no checks will be done. As a bonus, this also means that you can create playlists for systems like the Atari 2600, which have no no-intro romset at all."

And after that, where on my vita can I put this file with playlist creator ? Is it gonna work with cave story (NX engine emulator) too ? And is there something like this but for the boxarts ?
Also, is it possible to delete some core ? It'll be not bad.

Yes. You're not forced to have all cores in RA.

I try playlist creator and it work but when I try to launch a rom, it say "rom could not be loaded from playlist" however the path is correct in the generated files (ux0:/data/retroarch/roms/rom's name). Does it really work with the vita ? (and I search on google !)
Maybe I need to use the "core" section in the windows software but the core are in the apk...

Update : after some tests, it work. Now I have to put the boxarts but I dont know how...

First, make yourself sure to use PNG format, and dont use image size too high (for instance: 3MB or above)
Then you must follow this path:
<thumbnails directory name> / <playlist name> / Named_<Boxarts|Snaps|Titles> / <rom name as in the playlist>.png

If it is too chaotic, this is example (make sure the folder have same name of PLAYLIST file after thumbnails folder):
thumbnails/Nintendo - Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Named_Boxarts/Super Double Dragon USA.png

So, in that case, in the playlist file Nintendo - Super Nintendo Entertainment System.pl

ux0:/data/Snes9x/Final Fight 3 (U).smc <--- rom path
Final Fight 3 USA <--- picture name (without .png extension)
app0:/snes9x2005_libretro.self <--- core name/path
app0:/snes9x2005_libretro.self <--- core name/path (dont ask me why double, but it needed)

I followed the guide to save settings per core, but when I launch one core, say, gbSP, it will still show other cores within it.

I want to launch each system (which shows up as a separate icon in the Vita live area), but not have it show other systems.

That's not how it works, lol. Retroarch is a FrontEnd, not a unique emulator per system.

Oh damn, well I wonder why there are even separate VPK's for each system if that is case. Maybe I will just consolidate it all into one icon on the LiveArea.

Btw, I downloaded some playlists for a few different systems, but some games I want aren't a part of those playlists. How would I add more games so they show up?.

There's the one named "RetroArch", that's the all-in-one and it's awesome.
And you should try the program that creates the playlists, because the playlists are yours only. Doesn't make sense to download ones.

The separate vpks are for those who want one bubble per system (doesn't make sense in my opinion, there's a lot of system one should love, and using the same bubble to play Street Fighter 2 Turbo Champions edition, on CPS2, and then, after get beaten by fucking Honda, change to Mega Man X on the SNES and get revenge against one or two replicas for an extra pump to your ego).

I think you can create different folders for each core playlist and then set that folder in core override settings.

How do I properly change some of the controller settings? For instance, I want to change player 1 in NES to be square = turbo B, and triange = turbo A. I went into Settings, Input, InputUser1Binds, and set my controls, but even after restarting RetroArch, no change.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
