There's no need for it on the Wii. Loading large ROMs was fixed way back, and VBA-M has better compatibility and already runs pretty much fullspeed from the games I tried. Are there some that do not?

Zelda Minish Cap (PAL) doesn't run fullspeed, there is a lot of slowdowns. "Playable", but "not enjoyable" I would say.
A Link to the Past (GBA version w/ Four Swords, PAL) is also awkward.
Dragonball Adventure (all regions) runs very slow as well.
They are all very much the same like VBA-GX and are working just fine on VBA-M on PC.

The Kirby games as well as Super Mario Bros Superstar Saga (all PAL, only checked the beginning) seem to work perfect on the other hand.
That are all games that I tested so far :)

Iridion 2, Final Fantasy V/VI Advanced, and Golden Sun 2 (framerate issues, choppy audio), but other than those few, games run a lot better than VBA GX. Not sure what can be done about those games, I don't know if the Wii's CPU can handle more CPU intensive tasks like that.

Games that I've tried that work full speed
- Golden Sun
- Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland
- Iridion 3D
- Final Fantasy IV Advanced

Games that I've tried that have moderate to serious speed issues
- Final Fantasy V and VI Advanced (dungeons/towns slow down the game)
- Iridion 2 (when enemies show up and in the start menu)
- Golden Sun 2 (the beginning of the game, in the dungeon there is choppy audio-related issues)
- Mother 3 (especially in battle, timing the hits to the beat/tempo is near-impossible), but the overworld (towns, etc)
runs perfectly.

Perhaps I'm hallucinating and/or am under the influence of a strong opiate, but I can assure you that the games I listed are what they are. Whether or not my bug report has any merit and will help those that program the emulator, that remains to be seen. Make what you will out of it, but those games most assuredly do not run at full speed. The never ran full speed on Tantric's version, and they sure as hell don't run full speed on this version. Granted, they run a little better, but not what I expected.

Okay, it appears I was wrong about that. We might get a port of gpSP going for a later release, but it will be less compatible from what I've heard, and there's no guarantee the games you have issues with running fullspeed will even run on gpSP. (I've heard both Golden Sun games have a lot of issues, to name one.)

So, with GBA Next, can anything be done to help those game at all?

Also the classic series do not work

There is a way to get it work on Windows, but it's a freakin PITA to get to work, and is somewhat more demanding, I doubt they're going to work on the VBA Next core. Not trying to be negative, but it looks doubtful, as I reported some games that don't run full speed.

Either way though the new release was a focus for the Android port, so there probably won't be as much to look forward to for our beloved Wii Console, if they give us 240p/double strike and the save game fix I'll be very happy though until they decide to focus on console ports for 0.9.9 or a future version ;) Thanks guys and here's hoping for the New Year release. Cheers!

Here's to hoping VBA Next gets some speed optimizations.

If the Android port is the main focus for this upcoming release, what changes are there (if any) in the Wii port, that constitute in making 0.98 instead of doing something like 0.97.1? I'm not trying to be ungrateful, I'm just confused:wacko:

Just played Power Instinct 2 with FBA PC and holy crap the sound was totally f'ed up! I know that's an FBA problem and not retroarch but just wanted to point that out, I'm going to try it out on retroarch GX just to see what happens lol.

Anytime I try to run anything, it just goes to your standard core dump screen and locks up my Wii.

I have tried SNES roms since it is default. I have changed the core to DOOM and restarted RetroArch, went to Genesis, etc. All of them crash my Wii.

Any theories?

The core used is displayed on the bottom of the screen with green letters.
Make sure to load the correct roms for each core (i.e. .smc files for snes core etc) and with the right extensions. The readme in the first post explains everything.

so where's our new year suprise?
New Year surprise? There's no release, that's the surprise.
