An article on MTV (yeah, why is MTV doing these kinds of articles?) was with an interview with Retro Studios, the company has said that they are very proud of Metroid Prime 3 (and they should be) and when asked where they are going next, they said they weren't allowed to say however they are extremely excited with the next project.
They also mentioned that Nintendo is only good at making platformers and casual games, and that Nintendo (Nintendo also owns Retro) has told Retro they deeply respect the studio as they can make games that Nintendo can't, and hold them to the same high standards as their Japanese counterparts. Which would apparently make Retro Studios, the only western studio that follows the same methodologies as japanese developers, however I believe we can soon add Monolith Software to the list soon. Now if you think about it, it's true. For example, when you see a title coming out from Konami, Capcom, Square-enix for example, you know the quality is going to be the best possible. Personally, I think Nintendo needs to buy a few more western studios!
The article also states that Retro said they aren't very strong with shaders, but very talented with color creation. He also goes on saying that the Nintendo Wii can also go way beyond what they did in Metroid Prime 3, and it's not the number of polygons and stuff that make a game, as there are tons of creative techniques that game artists can use to fool the human eye.
Anyways, I'm wondering what Retro's next project will be? I only played Metroid Prime for about a 2-3 days before I had to take it back (never finished it) and I still have Metroid Prime 2 at the halfway point. I did completely finish Metroid Prime 3. Retro Studios is easily one of the most respectable studios out there. I hope the new development project is something lets say...Pit from Kid Icarus? I'd love to see a Wii game.
What are some your thoughts?
