Report: Nintendo will be allowing free Joy-Con repairs, will refund those who paid a fee previously

The Switch Joy-Con drift drama saga continues. Nintendo's official statement earlier today wasn't the only new update to the situation, as a report from Vice has revealed that an internal memo within Nintendo is calling for all customer support agents to allow for Joy-Cons to be sent in for repair, free of charge. Not only that, but should you need to send in your controller for repair, representatives will no longer require a proof of purchase, nor will they still have to be under warranty. Previously, owners were required to show proof that they purchased the Joy-Cons new, and once they got past the general troubleshooting with a support agent, they were then allowed to send their non-functioning Joy-Cons to Nintendo, along with $40, in order to be repaired. Additionally, if you did happen to already send your Joy-Cons in and paid the $40 requirement, you can request a refund so long as you can prove that you had them repaired in the past. Though Nintendo seems reluctant to actually admit anything on the matter, it does appear that they're taking steps internally, to assist customers that have been affected by Joy-Con drift.

yes!!! now to send in my disassembled joycon from when i failed to manually repair it and all my other joycons that have stick drift and one that only works when wired with sl and sr buttons nonfunctional.

Nintendo must be desperate to do this because they don't wanna have to deal with another lawsuit.

So how does the sending process work?
What do I need to do to begin the process and follow it through?

Also, I cleaned the joycon stick with alcohol and also electronic contact cleaner, would that affect the repair process at all?

In the source article they put an example explaining the process that one of their staff members had to do in order to get his joycons repaired. So you first need to raise a ticket addressing your issue in the Nintendo support page, a support assistant will ask you some questions and to do some actions, and after, you should answer that nothing you did worked to fix the issues, then they will send you a free shipping label so you can send your joycons, no fees charged.

Oh THank God, I bought a warranty and they were ass when I tried to replace my joycons "YOu wanT to ReplACe YouR WAtCH?" Except I CLEARING SAID GAME CONSOLE SEVEN TIMES, nintendo's Customer service has been really cool in my opinion, and I'll have them replace the sticks now

that sounds like a personal problem, because who's to say you didn't cause the problem when you disassembled the joycon

So I can send my launch day joycons in and get them fixed or replaced?
According to these news:
https://www.destructoid.com/nintend...ee-according-to-an-internal-memo-561752.phtml
yes.

Interesting to see if this "fix" only makes the issue go away temporarily until it shows up in the new pair. Does anyone know if they're making actual hardware changes?

That's the real issue. If it's a design flaw on the hardware side, it's of little to no use. Id say they better change the mechanism on new joy-cons, but that would be not practical due to all of the cons on the wild.
So an answer to that question...it's not gonna be easy, don't know myself.

So, I submitted a ticket describing my defective joycons the other day, and today, instead of a response, I just got a "ups label delivery" email with no accompanying info, and a separate email from nintendo telling me about the label. I of course can assume this is a response to the drift problem, but I haven't seen any official response from nintendo saying that its free, only the rumored memo. Should I just send the joycon and see what happens? They can't charge me anyway, since I have no payment information on my account.
I would have assumed I'd have been contacted by customer service before they send a label.

Ok questions for those getting Joy cons fixed. First did they give you new controller or just a repair? Second what is the time frame from shipped to returned? Third can I ask Nintendo for a new color if they replace it
