Hacking Repair a loose hinge on DS Lite before trading in?

Hi

I bought my kids a DSi XL, and so can now trade in there old DS Lite. However when you open it, the top screen flops to flat. On the hinge on the RHS a little bit you can see is open (when its closed), and looks like a hairline crack when its open.

So my brother just traded in his and I wouldn't mind, but they will spot this straight away. So can it be fixed? Is it easy? Is it worth it? (DS works perfect). Its a pink DS Lite

By a new shell and replace it. Due to the time and effort, I'd say it's not worth the small amount you'd get for the DS Lite.

So I have to buy a total new case for it! the whole caboodle? I was hoping just the hinge it or something?

My brother got £45 (UK), so gotta be worth it?

Well, a 'total new case' is the least you'll have to do to repair the hinge. It's quite easy actually and it only costs about $15-$20.

Ah I thought maybe you could just replace the actual hinge rather than the whole shell/case. Would the shop I trade in into not realise then though that its not a genuine case after this?

i wouldnt recommend trying to change the case unless you have done it previously. it is very complex.

If your trading it in dont even bother fixing it they wont give you any more money for it

Fair do , but they will probably refuse the trade in if its no good. At the moment when you open the DS, the screen flops to fully open. I dont think they will allow a trade in if this is the case? I know if I was buying a 2nd hand one from a shop I would try it 1st and if it flopped open like mine does, I wouldnt buy it though
