You could get a really good enclosed silicone case--not only with you get rid of the smell, (you're pretty much exchanging one odor for another) but you won't have to touch the beater-mitt buttons. I guess you'll also be protecting your investment.

I bought a used n3ds last month and since it arrived it has the most horrific lotion smell. What can I do to solve this?

dumb thread ik.
and thats exactly why i avoid used things.
i bought an used ps3 controller once...and jesus christ. on ebay pictures it looked great but when it arrived it had brownish dirt in every small hole or opening there is.
sticks were slimy, there was some kind of pet hair in the usb connector...

I put on my gloves and submerged it in disinfectant, wiped with wet tissues, wiped with paper towel, some more purell , wet tissues again and finally a paper towel.
I put it on the shelve and went to buy a new one. :D
It hasnt been used to this day , whenever I look at it (even though it looks clean) i get flashbacks of that dirt -.-

Try Isopropyl alcohol, it cuts through most grease and is 100% sterile - and leaves a very clinical clean smell behind.
