Released in 2009, The Wind that Spans the Sea is the second of two Spice and Wolf games for the Nintendo DS, which takes on and improves many elements from its predecessor, without being a direct sequel.*

Part business simulator, part dating game, step into the shoes of Kraft Lawrence as you strive to take Holo back to her hometown of Yoitsu. Having secured a contract to collect some money from a town on the other shore, everything should be plain sailing ahead, but of course, the best laid plans of mice and wolves often go awry...



Plonk yourself in the driver’s seat and hold fast on the reins for an immersive journey with 3 new possible companions, one of whom was created specifically for the game!

The translation project for My Year With Holo started in April 2020 and released in February 2021 (10 months), and work on The Wind that Spans the Sea started immediately after, but didn't really get going until October of that year, which totals to ~8 months active time, so yes, it was definitely faster!

It is a slightly smaller game in terms of amount of text, but our team this time was also smaller, so it just shows how much of an impact external influences such as other life commitments have to play on fan translation projects

Congratz!! Btw, which dialect is Holo using? I noticed she says a lot onushi, which is an archaic form of you. Does she use that towards everyone or only Lawrence?

Holo's dialect is modelled off that used by Oirans, high ranking courtesans from the Edo period. It's purpose is essentially to make Holo's speech sound old fashioned and unique.

She does say "nushi" when directly speaking to other people as well, and more rarely "nushi-sama".
