Noob question:
Is it possible to compile it on an windows machine?
It's definetly possible, but whether it's worth the effort of getting make, cmake and libarchive working under Windows is up to you. It's much easier to just create an Ubuntu VM and compile it in there by running build.sh .

Having installed Windows&Linux, im fine with using linux if theres currently no "easy"/fast way for windows.
Thanks! :)

Dammit guys. Here are the core things (feel free to link to this post in case you assholes ignore this):
  • TheCruel is banned and got sentenced to jail for Child Pornography. This was figured out by forum users by crosslinking various details (read 300 to 320 for details) and the mods banned him for it.
  • FreeShop as it is is NOT in danger in any shape way or form because of this. It's code is open source and anyone can check if it contains objectionable content. As of right now, it does not contain any.
  • TheCruel does NOT maintain the cache for freeShop, @ss23 does and he isn't currently in jail (nor is he planning to). If the cache method breaks at any point, it is trivial to switch cache sources anyway, with only a few lines of coding needing to be changed to point to the new servers and users needing to install and update to freeShop. See here for a simple writeup on how freeShops cache works in comparison to the similar tool, CIAngel.
  • @Minox (and by extension the mod team) already told everyone to BACK THE FUCK OFF and bring back discussion to freeShop.
Having said that, please refrain from discussing TheCruel's actions beyond this point. The dude's a sick bastard, we already know that and he got aptly punished for it. If it offends you to a personal level, write a damn Blog about it and do NOT shit up the thread. The thread is about freeShop, not about TheCruel.

On-topic: As it currently stands a new maintainer would be very useful, as I've seen at least one user who is willing to add a new feature to freeShop, and in the end that is all that matters. That this software gets expanded upon more and more. By far the easiest would be for someone who is interested to create a fork and appoint contributors to it. Having said that, here are some of the current and useful suggestions to the software that I've seen people make:
  • List the amount of free space available on the SD card (suggested by @jockep and he wants to work on it so I wish him the best of luck with it).
  • Adding flags for the KOR and CHN regions (suggested by @StarTrekVoyager )
  • Add the ability to use BCSTM as a music format to make a looping track. (suggested by @StarTrekVoyager )
  • Fix various bugs including amongst others: The download buffering, the mario strikers not downloading properly, freeShop crashing if you switch the download list during TMD install and many many more (suggested by lots of people in this thread)
  • Add theming support (suggested by many people, including me)
If you are a dev and are interested in coding any of this, feel free to do so. This is just a simple compilation of the primary things people seem to want out of freeShop, and I think I can safely speak for everyone that we need a new maintainer. If we get one, I'd say they should create a new thread and this thread should be locked to prevent the freeShop discussion from being killed while also getting everyone to shut the fuck up about The Cruel.
just make sure the new thread is linked in the last message before it's locked for those who show up here later on

It's really starting to get annoying. Just fucking read the last 20-30 pages and you will know exactly why he is banned.
Jayro saying "he is a sick bastard" is the same thing I criticized a few pages earlier, stop insulting him, it won't change anything and all you accomplish is letting people think that you're a hot tempered kid. It is not your problem, it's his.

Read the last 20-30 pages it has been said more than once. And fucking stop talking about this topic.

No offense, but the mods should finally close this or atleast delete all posts about Cruel (my posts too), it's so annoying.
lol why so salty bro

Just did a quick test. Just using the build.sh doesnt work on an vanilla ubuntu machine...

Code:
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking whether make supports nested variables... yes
checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking host system type... arm-none-eabi
checking for arm-none-eabi-gcc... arm-none-eabi-gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... no
configure: error: in `/home/jmdf/Downloads/freeshop/3ds_portlibs/libarchive-3.1.2':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details
Makefile:274: recipe for target 'libarchive' failed

Il check it later and report back.
Linux hates me haha

Edit: Seems to work now ;)

Another useless spam:
Does anybody knows why some games doesn't appear in my FreeShop?
Like Dead or Alive, or Metal Gear Solid 3D, or the one about racing cars that came as a launch game of the system.

I presume I'm the only Irish person who thinks it's stupid and not funny at all then?

Anyway, I agree with creating a new thread, this is really just a clusterfuck that everyone needs to get away from asap.

Jokes aside, this topic needs to stop.

Does anyone know who to contact to get this thread closed? I feel it would be best to close this one and open a new one. Though that is just me.

Anything stand out as the potential future for updates, support, and such for this project?

Seeing as this might not be updated very much anymore, do we see Nintendo being able to catch up and get on our backs for using this? Or is this app as infallible as it's made off to be?

Because nobody who bought them through eShop shared the tickets or other data to that titles site. If they are actually sold on eShop. So any CIA that you may found were actually made by dumping retail carts.
OFF: I think the racing one you are asking is the Ridge Racer 3D.

Unless you manage to connect an unreleased game to the Nintendo servers, so they can get your NNID and actually get information about your console and how you managed to get an unreleased game connected to the internet.
