Actually you could --- eg people managed to play the US version of Pokémon Sun and Moon in Europe before it was released.
We can play games before release, but you can't do that using freeShop. The way freeShop works is by having the encryted title key + freeShop cache to download the game. If the game isn't in the cache, you can't download the title. This is why freeShop is almost always behind in game availability. You could do it with CIAngel, but not with freeShop. Also the leaked copies that I've seen are cartridge dumps. You could get a preload, but you won't be able to play because the seed doesn't get released until the launch day. I haven't heard of the seed being available before launch.

Yes, but the Pokemon games are region free and share the same title ID, so as soon as the seed is available in one region (for instance, Japan would get the games first because time zones), every other region gets access to the seed. So if they have a preloaded copy, all they need to do is get the seed. So EU people were able to play it before their release date because of that. The games could have been on freeShop before release if someone uploaded the title keys after they bought the game and installed the preloaded copy, unless I'm misunderstanding how this all works.

You're right, I forgot Pokémon was all region game. Also there was almost a week delay for EU release.

You could have installed the preload from elsewhere, but couldn't have done it with freeShop. As I understand it, @TheCruel doesn't update the cache to have preloads available, because of the seed. I just don't remember when freeShop cache was updated to have the game. If it was done after EU release, the you still couldn't play until it fully released using freeShop. If it was updated after Australia and/or Japan, you're right.

What is the current latest version of freeShop?
It's been a while since I updated it, I believe last update I did was the one after the "Fuck Nintendo edition"

Freeshop only pulls games from the title key site that have "encrypted title key" listed correct? It appears that the individual who maintains the site is taking a break. Is there a way to produce the encrypted title key yourself and inject it into the bin file?

I'm sure he has a life besides encrypting keys. Maybe after sighax, it'll be automated.
You can just use recent Decrypt9 or GodMode9 to encrypt it yourself. Still won't work with freeShop since you need freeShop cache to be updated as well. You can use CIAngel, CDN-FX, FunKeyCIA, or FunkyCIA2.

Is it me or, Tekken 3D: Prime Edition missing from the free shop?
The title key is not on that title keys site, so no, it's not on freeShop. The only thing related to Tekken on the title keys site is "Conference 2011 TEKKEN 3D PRIME EDITION", which according to 3dsdb.com, the title ID for it doesn't match any of the Tekken listings.

It's not you. Find it elsewhere.

Hi guys, short question. Is the freeshop still loading with the official eShop servers? Because I can't see the source code...

Source Code was DMCA'd, so the project is closed source now
What are you talking about? The project was DMCA'd because it used Nintendo 3DS splash screen.
The source code is available if you know where to look and it's still open source. Although there hasn't been much activity recently.
