could you explain what a seed key is, and why only freeshop needs it?

Seed is for the encryption Nintendo introduced in 9.6 firmware. Without it your game will hang on the 3DS screen and not be playable. All the digital games that use the encryption needs it.

Try Google DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or OpenDNS servers at 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. It's working fine.

Thanks for the added info about free space on top screen ... i had no intention of jumping on the paranoia bandwagon in the other thread and dropping freeshop however now i have a reason to upgrade for the freespace meters on top screen
