This is getting dumb.

I know just a few posts ago I said the rawksd crew doesn't owe anybody anything.

But come on, this thing has been in private beta for 2 months now.

You are dangling a toy to a cat in anticipation for over a year now, and giving other cats who just happened to be at the right place at the right time, the toy.

What you guys are doing is completely unethical. you have an army of people waiting for this program (that is ready for at least use in public beta) you're just driving insane with the wait.

I mean rock band 3 is coming out in another month FFS.

I'm not saying hurry up and make the public release, but why the hell are you taking extreme measures (using wii IDs) to keep this program from the general public? People are willing to pay you guys, probably quite a bit of money, to get it. But no they can't, they are just stuck in an endless wait because for some reason those who have tested a god damn leader-board are given special treatment.

At least give us the damn beta. It's been over a year since 2.0 was announced.

Sorry if this pisses you off, but I had to get it off my chest.

There's too many bugs for a release, especially of the beta version. If I were the developers, I'd rather listen to a few people bitch about it not being out yet than have this thread and the chatroom be inundated with complaints about "OMG Y ISNT TEH PROGRAM PERFEKT U HAD LIEK 5 YEARS 2 DEVELOPE IT," or questions about why IOS37 is being updated and RawkSD2 doesn't work anymore (owait thats already happened), why the game freezes up, why some SDHC cards don't work or why when a USB hard drive spins down the game freaks out and can't reinitialize it, among other things.

I didn't happen to read the forums during that time period, infact I think back then I just refreshed the wiki for updates. had I known I definitely would have tested out the leader-boards.

But look how many people are on the forums posting and waiting, compared to how many people have access to Beta. Obviously the knowledge wasn't as common as you think it was. If they knew and decided to be lazy and not test them out fine, it's fair to keep them out, but I am sure most of us just didn't know.

You guys are closing off this program that is in its Beta stage to people who just happen to have tested the leaderboards, which is in no way makes them more qualified to test out a program than the rest of us.

If it is released as a Beta, people don't have the right to complain about bugs and what not, and they are using it at their own risk, so I really don't see why you can't open the Beta to the public.

The girls I keep luring to my flat with this game are getting bored and I need more songs

thats a complete fallacy of course...those people 'didnt happen to' anything, they were willing, which is, in a nutshell, what makes them more qualified than the ranks of the whiny entitled.

Considering you've posted in this topic at least once a week since the beta came out, I'm frankly surprised that it would have been humanly possible for you to miss every single leaderboards announcement in the two months prior.

We assume that people who check the forums or the IRC channel at least once per month and are willing to try something at least once are more qualified than people who were apparently absent for the entire two-month period the leaderboard test was open or were unwilling or incapable of running a five-minute test with the same requirements as the beta.

Granted, Aaron was figuring it would be a quick fix-and-release when he got back from his trip at the end of August, but we were pretty effective at finding lots of bugs.

Like I said, once I heard about Rawksd 3.0 all I did was visit the wiki page every now and then. Once I saw the beta up on there is when I started coming here and asking questions about it. If the information was on the wiki page I would have seen it =\

The wiki page just seemed more official to me than a forum thread, so I thought information would get there first, and this thread was just a thread to help people out who were having problems with it. My lack of knowledge in this case, doesn't show ignorance, stupidity or unwillingness to try something/help you guys test something out.

"If it is released as a Beta, people don't have the right to complain about bugs and what not,"

I don't think you understand the point. the beta isn't for people to have exclusive rights, it's for the creators to fix all bugs with a nice userbase for testing. people who tested leaderboards showed willingness to test and report info back to the devs which is very needed

No, I do understand what a Beta is for.

I'm just saying, after a year of waiting, to give us a break, and show us a taste of the promised land.

Especially for people like me who genuinely had no clue about the leader boards, but would have tested them.

no, it doesnt...but these sorts of things do:

just say "damn, i wish i had seen the announcement about the beta requirements" be patient, and move on, like most of the well-adjusted folks in this thread.

Looking back, there's been over 50 pages of mentions of the leaderboards. You seriously can't have missed them all.
Like I said, I wasn't checking this thread at the time, because I thought the wiki would have all the information, and that this thread was just a seperate topic based on speculation and help with rawk sd. I had no idea the devs still posted here. I really don't think that is my fault.

Which is fine; in fact, it's perfectly acceptable. Where it crosses the line a bit, though, is calling "ethics" into question when in reality it's no one's fault but your own, regardless of whether you knew it or not.

And this is when your (and everyone else's) bitching loses any justification.

The creators (and even the beta testers) were not dangling anything in front of anybody. Some jerk came to this forum to taunt you all who had no relation to the RawkSD team and you are blaming the team for his actions.

In fact, this holds true for pretty much all bitching about any program in the Wii scene...Riivolution, DIOS MIOS, HBC/BootMii, at least one translation project...some completely unrelated person talks shit and you all treat them as members of the teams when it is easily verified that they are not, and you try to hold the team to the nonsense this random troll said.

Hmm...I suppose that "dangling it in front of everybody" is just a way of looking at things. I remember seeing some beta pics & info in this thread, and I was all like "wow! this is going to be GREAT when it finally arrives!
yaywii.gif
". I was glad there was progress, there was going to be a lot of new features that were going to justify the long development time, and so on, and so on.
It never even once occurred to me that you could also look at it as if that one guy was taunting the beta as if he had something we would never ever going to get. In fact, I was glad he wasn't showing some screens of crashes, out-of-sync music charts or whatever issues the beta has.

@Gohan: just a curious question: do you know what the term "beta" means? Not necessarily for this program, but in general. It's not some sort of early release, but more of an ironed out concept. It's not exactly the program, but what the program is SUPPOSED to be.
It basically means that while the program MAY work fine, there is no guarantee. Worse: if an error or bug or something shows up, it's your job as a beta tester to find it and replicate it as good as possible (when does it occur? why does it occur? how do you work around it? ...). And those things can be VERY annoying, and can REALLY suck the pleasure out of whatever game or program you're beta-testing.

So...yeah. I understand how you feel. But really...the near-release of rock band 3 isn't going to magically make all bugs that may be in the program to disappear. Tough luck...but that's the way it goes.

But I've got to say: luring in girls to your flat with rock band 2 and rawksd? Wow...you sure make a strong argument there, buddy. I bet the developpers will certainly DOUBLE their efforts to get this thing done right now!

Yes I know what a Beta is, I've said that so many times, and have been in many Betas. For most programs, when a Beta is close to release, it's made to be a public beta though, and that's all I'm asking for.

Also, the girls bit was just a joke (albeit, a true situation)
