Revision C, means that your R4 Gold is compatible to do the firmware update with patch files.

@Potato8741 Do you have a DSLite or can you find it?

Because only on a DSLite you can run your R4 Gold and then upgrade to firmware 1.4.5.

No unfortunately I don’t have one nor have access to one

You need to be able to start the firmware flashing program. The cart you have should start in

• DS-phat
• DS-lite
• DSi with lower firmware version
• DSi with CFW
• 3DS with very low firmware
• 2/3DS with CFW

Or maybe (from the readme in the update package):
Yet another flashcart which already is ready for DSi menu 1.4.5:

Start the flashing program with another cartridge which already works on your DSi, take out the working flashcart, put in the R4i Gold and update the firmware.

it works on the other ds. i can even see everything and select the update files if i waned

i tried two different update files and it would commence the update and finish it and ask for the cycle closing. but when i do that and access the card, the firm ware is still the old one.

Maybe a faulty revision C one (that is a thing) but it should work on 1.4.5 with the correct patch.

How so. You're saying it is safe to install firmware without knowing it is the right card? He hadn't confirmed what version he had when I posted. So what exactly did I get wrong?

The r4ids.cn stuff is pretty safe to use. The installer simply won't work if it's not supported.
In addition to that cards with this sticker can be compatible with the most recent firmware from them. The RTS addition came without a hardware change.
The term "you bought another ancient card" isn't correct either. He bought one of the most recent ones. There simply isn't much development going on in the DS scene these days and the tech used by the current flashcarts is from 2013 or a similar date.

Just assuming a FW update from another card is safe is simply reckless. As for the card being ancient I wasn't talking about what tech it used I was talking about when it was released. Given it hasn't had an update since 2013 and all the official links are dead, I was right.

Well, the link is for the card(s by r4ids.cn). It's probably even directly from their website (through the web archive). Nothing to worry about.
The links are dead since 2 months or something because filetrip went down. Yes, the manufacturer should update them but the fact that the links went down isn't really the fault of them. The DS mode of the latest card from the team, the r4i gold 3ds plus from 2017 I think, runs on the same (or similar) hardware.
There simply is no update required. It works on the latest 3DS version (if it's not from the faulty batch) and it's compatibility with games is top notch.

Finaaaaally got it to work. I had tried them but they didn’t work
Turns out because I didn’t remove some other files from the root
Once I did that , I was able to run the NDSi update successfully from the other ds. Worrrrked like a charm and now I’m playing again

The first one shouldn't be used because the 6.something file posted earlier serves the same purpose but has better compatibility. The second file is for faulty revision C cards and is for DSi 1.4.5 support. I think that it doesn't support the 3DS officially. There are other updates for that purpose (but they don't support DSi V1.4.5).
