Hacking R4itt issue - An Error Has Occured

I have a Nintendo dsi version 1.4.5E.
I got an r4itt card yesterday and it’s not working.
The site is down and I don’t know which kernel to use since I can’t get the latest one from them. I keep getting ”an error has occurred please refer to manual“ error When I tried different kernels.
Please help.

Does your DSi have custom firmware to remove the whitelist check? Many older flashcarts have been blocked by the last 1.4.5 update for the DSi. The result is that "an error has occurred" screen. The only two ways to get that thing working if it is blocked:

• Install CFW on your DSi if not already done (requires Flipnote Studio or good soldering skills at the moment).
• If an update for the flashcart firmware exists (not the kernel!), you can install the update with another console (DS-lite/phat, hacked DSi/hacked 2/3DS).

Try your R4 clone in a DS-lite/phat in any case to ensure the cartridge itself is working.

Good luck. It is not easy with the number of different R4 clones out there.

No it doesn’t have custom firmware


I tried what was in that thread but it didn’t work becuase the r4itt site is down so I can’t get resources for my card

It needs an update to work and since it looks like there isn't one the only options left are to use a DS Lite instead, install custom FW on the DSi or get a new flash cart that was updated to work with the newer firmware.

Hrmmm... that's a hard one
You can get the firmware at https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://r4itt.info/kernel/* but the ENG kernel download seems to be broken.
Maybe you can use ysmenu as kernel instead: https://gbatemp.net/threads/retrogamefan-updates-releases.267243/

Another note: the flashcart might brick if you try to update the firmware, so I would suggest against doing so.

I gave up with the r4itt and I got another one. But I’m still getting the Same “an error has occurred “ issue

Go to the website on the box and download the newest update for the cart. Make sure you pick the right one as it looks like they do a few different ones.

Edit: Looks like the download links on the site dont work anymore. Last update was in 2013. You bought another ancient card.

Does not work for me either. Are you sure the internet archive has mirrored the actual file?

However, searching the web for the filename r4igold_3DS62_Patch.rar did. The file I got from two different locations has the md5sum 18c7001c865f99d0d3825ab3ae2294cb

This is indeed a problem since the cart seems to be an older version missing the "RTS" The update may or may not be compatible.
To apply the firmware update you still need another DS(-lite/phat) which boots it with the current firmware.

There should be a number or a letter near the DS contacts. (1-9 or A-D). Can you write it?
Oh, and don't listen to spectral. He seems not to know his stuff.

How so. You're saying it is safe to install firmware without knowing it is the right card? He hadn't confirmed what version he had when I posted. So what exactly did I get wrong?

Yes. Seems your card is a revision C one...

Revision C, means that your R4 Gold is compatible to do the firmware update with patch files.

@Potato8741 Do you have a DSLite or can you find it?

Because only on a DSLite you can run your R4 Gold and then upgrade to firmware 1.4.5.
