Hacking R4 SDHC how to put cheats in it?

Hello all, I just joined so I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but here it goes. How do I put cheat codes into my R4SDHC? I've spent countless hours searching for a way to do this and FAILED, so I turned to the pros here for some help. Again the card is R4 SDHC and I'm using kernel v1.56 in case that matters. I've been all over youtube, google and even this forum and nothing seems to work. Do I need a CHEAT.DAT, a usercheat.dat, or do I need to create my own cheats with cheat code editor?? Or do I need an older kernel version?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Shadow
