Hey if anyone has used a save dongle before for DS games I am having a problem with it I download the game to my computer obviously and then I go to the site r4 site but all the peoples game data won't load so then I surf the internet for 3DS Game data and find people's saved files. I upload those files from pc to card and the save dongle tells me that the data has uploaded successfully but the game tells me that the file is corrupt and won't process the data to make matters worse It erases my original save data. Someone please help me out and tell me what is wrong.

R4i Save Dongle only dumps/restores saves to/from cartridges.

DS/3DS cartridge games and saves can be dumped with a CFW 3DS using Godmode9. If you're asking for ROMs, Google is your
friend. If you're asking for saves, Gamefaqs has an assortment as does thetechgame.

can you tell me what source and start format I should try first?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

or witch would probably work because It a looks like there is like 100 different formats and I don't want to turn my ds on and off a 100 different times if the first couple don't work

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

not to say that I haven't done this already

I would expect most sites would use .sav . I don't know why there are six different variants of .sav listed on that site, though.

I agree it is probably easier to use DS homebrew software to read and write save data than it is to use the R4i dongle.

What do you mean by "it"?

If you're downloading DS save files and they're not working with your dongle, then the save files are in the wrong format for some reason, or there's something else wrong with the save files, or there's something wrong with your dongle. There don't seem to be any other possibilities.

R4i Save Dongle hasn't been updated to support newer games in years, but might support the earliest ones like KH:3D and NSMB2. Other options: Godmode9 can dump a cartridge for a 3DS that has Custom FirmWare (CFW); Checkpoint can also dump 3DS saves and also needs CFW. That's pretty much the only route for 3DS saves.

You can also use JKSM to read and write data on a 3DS cartridge; it doesn't require a full CFW installation. But there isn't really much to be gained from not installing CFW.

The reason newer games aren't supported is because newer carts use a new encryption method for their save data. But that doesn't stop Godmode9/Checkpoint/JKSM.

(I guess in theory, now that the 3DS bootroms have been dumped and everything has been cracked wide open, someone could write new software for save dongles that circumvents the encryption problem – but I doubt anyone is interested in doing that since CFW save managers already work perfectly fine.)

ok so how would put on a save file for super mario bros 2?
You mean NSMB2? The same way you would for any other 3DS game: run Checkpoint or JKSM, export the save data, copy the new save data to the SD card (either into the same folder as the exported save data, or into another subfolder), run Checkpoint or JKSM, and import the save data.

using r4i save dongle?
If I'm not mistaken, Super Mario Maker stores all its data on the SD card, which is why you have to erase all the data on the cart when you want to use it with a different 3DS. You can manage courses using OCDM.

A save dongle will not help you, especially since, like it says in numerous other posts in this thread, that isn't useful for any game made as new as Super Mario Maker.
