Still no fixes or answers.

I'm pretty disappointed by my R4 experience at this point, and out about 100 bucks...

I didn’t read all the replies although I did see you tried your R4 on another system & Vice versa right? Did you try formatting the Micro-SD with a different reader & reinstalling? A bad reader can cause problems like this.

It is kinda strange, how is the error displayed? Because if it was the faulty MicroSD, R4 should have report something about bad transflash instead of "hardware is incompatible". Are you sure you are having an R4 and not something else? Could be that you bought another flashcart(faked on purpose maybe) and have R4 firmware on it. A real deal comes with a CD, a MicroSD reader and a blue cart holder case. And since your have tested it on other DS and it wouldn't work, I would say you have a faulty R4, get it replaced. You may also try to use your Microsd on a friend's R4, if you have one.

This maybe sound strange...
but....

"Try M3 simply OS in your R4"

I think when you put M3OS in R4 or R4OS in M3
You will get this error

maybe someone hack that rom and made it change your R4 into M3Simply
when you run it.

it could be a new firmware that makes non official nintendo carts non playable. u said u bought a new japanese DSL... back in the days there was multiple firmware changes that stopped passme, pass me 2,wifime but ofcorse those was security exploits... Slot-1 carts should be 1:1 and act as a official kart.

now as for spending more money on a r4 when you already know the R4 don't work... Thats not that smart. Consider getting another simple-easy to use kart like m3/G6 reals or cyclone. or maybe a more advance one like RPG or SCDS.

Speculating about the DS firmware having "protection" is kind of pointless. The card is bootstrapping fine (and thus isn't blocked), but for some reason something else in the software that IS ACTUALLY LOADED FINE FROM SD is backfiring.

The message "The hardware is not compatible" is within the menu DAT file wrather than the bootloader, so the R4 appears to be working just fine, it is just having some oddball problem (and I think trying Doggy124's suggestion of putting M3Simply's menu is well worth a shot as well).

Also, try deleting "_DS_MENU.SYS" from your TF card. It should re-create it when you boot next. I could see this file being corrupt causing such issues (especially if you keep putting a corrupt one back in there).

If you can't return it anymore, can you open it and show us a pic of the PCB, the side that has the TF slot on it? I'm just wondering if the shop you got it from didn't perform one of the language hacks in a poor fashion.

Well, at least one other person here has experienced the same problem now...are we gonna go with defective cards as the answer?

(still haven't returned my R4 card, gonna be a HUGE pain in da ass)

Metrotitan:
As long as people don't want to try follow instructions and report results (aka: co-operate), the ball is entirely in the court of the person with the problem and there is little anyone here will be able to do to help them.

So yeah, if you don't want to try stuff, don't want to post your results (which may well spark more ideas from others), the only thing I or anyone else can really say is "send it back to where you got it, or buy a new one." (it most certainly is not uncommon to have more than one person make the same mistakes, like using wrong files and such, so just because 2 people say they have problems does not necessarily mean it is a hardware problem at all)

Sorry...

I have done everything that his been suggested on this forum...short of cracking the thing open. I should have said that before, but I assumed if I was still here bitching, then people would assume I did these things!

Again, my apologies!

I tried English 1.0...and the new 1.1...I tried Chinese...I tried Korean too I think...all same problem..."HARDWARE INCOMPATIBLE"

I just tried English 1.12 as well... no dice.

Do you get that message without the card inserted? Maybe the small amount of EEPROM/flash inside the R4 got corrupted. In that case I think you're screwed unless you can find another flashcart to test it with to try to format the save space with REIN or something.

Hey, Metrotitan.

If you insert your R4DS into your DS without a MicroSD, and it says something other than "Could not find TF/SF Card"

It's defective.

There's no EEPROM or FLASH inside the R4.

Are you sure its an original R4 flashcard?

If I remember reading correctly there are fake cards out there with the R4 brand
