Hi guys. Is there a noob friendly version of "WiiFlow 4 The Masterpiece Pack by Abz" (it looks a little overwhelming for a new person).I just soft modded my wii and installed a bunch of roms from some of the old consoles. I saw videos of people showing their emuflow and I'd like to do that as well. Thanks
I think the idea if his masterpiece pack is to just copy and paste and it works because setting up manually everything that's in there already for you would be even harder.

If its supposed to be a copy and paste type of deal then I guess I'm dumber than I though lol. I don't know why I'm having an issue following it.

I feel like there must be something wrong with my system or my setup, because none of the backup loaders work well for me. Config USB Loader hangs when trying to load a game, WiiFlow goes to a black screen when trying to load a game, and USB Loader GX loads games, but the games intermittently freeze. People report my hard drive working like a charm, so it's not that. I have no idea what's causing all this BS and it's pretty frustrating. I re-softmodded the console using ModMii and make sure to have the latest versions of every loader, but nothing is working correctly.

I'm totally newb in this kind of thing, so bear with me. I downloaded the last Dios Mios Lite wad and DM Bootlauncher. A couple of questions:
  • I've noticed lag while playing in certain portions of Twilight Princess. Is there any way to play lagless (For example, using a USB with only the ISO instead of my SD containing all my homebrew apps)?

  • If I start storing save files with the backup with an app like GCMM, will they also work with an original disc?

You would use Dios Mios instead of Dios Mios Lite if you want to play off of USB instead of SD.

If you want to play lag-less on SD, it doesn't really matter what other homebrew's on the card with it (same goes for USB) It's recommended to have a SD card that's at least a class 4 (but higher class is always better but a class 4 is theoretically a little higher speed than the GC drive was.) and to have it formatted with 64k cluster size (the bigger the cluster size, the faster BUT 64k is the MAXIMUM and anything bigger than that will not work.)

Similarly with USB drives, some drives are faster than others but the cluster size it's formatted to has a MAXIMUM of 32k so that's the fastest (just like SD's cluster size limit, smaller will still work but will be slower while bigger just won't work for GC games.)

Oh ok, thank you a bunch! Seems like I'll have to get a better SD, I'm using a class 2 :)
You could always try formatting with 64k clusters first and see how much of an improvement you see there. If it's still too laggy for you, yes, THEN switching cards or switching to a USB drive ... but try the free option first :D

I am having troubles getting Super Smash Bros Brawl running correctly on my recently hacked Wii
What usually happens is that USB Loader GX (VERSION 3.0, IOS249) recognizes my USB and that Brawl is there, but when I go start playing the game a black screen occurs, Wiimote unconnects and I must hold the power button for 5-10 seconds before it restarts.

I am lost on what to do about this problem, could I please have some help?
Specs: Wii system 4.1
USB HDD: Seagate 2TB Expansion Desktop Drive (Code: STBV2000100), NOT partitioned, all is FAT32
SD Card: some random 512MB SD by "Team". No problems as of yet from this card, but is it the cause of this?)
Hacked by following the We Hack Wii instructions, Wii Backup Manager Build 78 used to transfer brawl (which is in wbfs format)

If you would like to know any other specific information please ask and I will try to find out

Maybe if you post here

AbdallahTerro, the maker of the pack, will be better able to help you with the details.

Thanks. I was able to get it to work, although I've only done nes roms but, I imagine it would be pretty easy to add other consoles/roms from this point on. I think the initial problem I was having as a noob was jumping straight into the guide without going step by step. It looks intimidating at first :P

You don't understand what the guide is telling you.
It's not telling to "install DM in slot 236"!

It's telling you to "use the IOS located in slot 236" in order to get access to NAND, because the IOS 236 is patched to grant access to NAND in order to install files into the Wii.
Once the Wad Manager is reloading using that slot, it can install WAD.

Then, you select the wad to install : DIOS MIOS or DIOS MIOS Lite.
If you don't see the WAD file, try putting the file in a sd;/wad/ folder instead of the root of the SD card.

the WAD will install in their respective place (NOT in slot 236). You don't choose where to install a WAD. The installation place is defined internaly inside the WAD file.
DIOS MIOS and DIOS MIOS Lite install into the "MIOS slot", which is invisible. It's not a channel you see on the system menu. MIOS is a system file (like a IOS, you don't see cIOS on system menu).

To know if you correctly installed DIOS MIOS or DIOS MIOS Lite, you can use an USBLoader (GX for example, in credit page).

Hi, I am having trouble getting WiiFlow to display all the icons for my homebrew apps in the Homebrew Source View. It picks and chooses which ones to display -- about half display, and the other half are blank. The apps load perfectly fine through WiiFlow, it's just the icons that do not work.

I've changed the app folder names, deleted everything in the cache folder, erased the PNG files and resaved them, and nothing works. This happens with the default icon images that come with most homebrew app downloads, as well as with custom icons, like the "LowLines" icon pack.

For example, I deleted all the icons from my various apps folders, and saved new ones directly from the LowLines website. All the new icons were made by the same person and were downloaded directly from the same source on the same day. Yet, WiiFlow randomly picks and chooses about half to display, and half to ignore.

All icons display perfectly fine in the HBC. It's only WiiFlow that has trouble. I only have around 20 apps, and they're all saved on the SD card.

Thank you for your help.

(I have the latest everything, because I re-downloaded everything just the other day--WiiFlow Masterpiece beta, most up-to-date emu's, etc. I downloaded HBC about 2 months ago, so that should still be current as well.)

Ok. The question is: What`s the best way to partitioning my HDD 4 tb to run Wiiflow and Usb Loader gx? I know that if i want to run Gamecube i have to format the HDD in 512 bytes/sector but the 4tb hdd dont format. Well i need to run Wii Games + GC Games + Wiiware and plugins.

A 4tb hdd you will probably be limited on what you can use it for.
Wii games will probably work fine.
GameCube games might work with Devolution but will NOT work with DiosMios
WiiWare/VC I don't think will work either ... but I could be wrong
Plugins would only work for those plugins (if any) that suport large drives like that.

(Devolution and WiiWare I've just not heard any official reports on so I can't say yes or no on those)

I think you're getting mixed up between sector size and cluster size.
Sector size is a permanent property of the disk and ALL drives larger than 2tb (as well as some smaller ones) have sectors that are 4k in size because the older 512byte aren't big enough to fill up the whole drive when you reach the maximum number of sectors. (this is what makes a compatibility problem with some apps.)
Cluster size on the other hand (groups of sectors) is something you choose when formatting a partition and bigger size can mean faster performance for games ... but can also mean a little bit of wasted space when dealing with a lot of tiny files.

As per your question,
- if you're going to have ANY chance at plugins/WiiWare/GameCube you'd have to have at least the first partition be FAT32. The MAX size of a FAT32 partition is 2tb so you'll have to have at least 2 partitions in that case.
- If you're doing 2 partitions and the HDD will JUST be connected to the Wii, I'd say to format BOTH partitions to FAT32 but if you're going to be using it to store things for the computer as well AND some of those files are going to be bigger than 4gb (which FAT32 can't do) or you're going to be wanting to use file permissions and/or related encryption from another file system, you'd want to use that filesystem (like NTSC) for the second partition which Wii games work fine off of anyhow.
- If you decide only to use Wii games, on the other hand, I'd say having one big partition is best as not to have to worry about one filling up and have to shuffle things around between them. In that case You'd use one big NTFS or EXT# partition (depending if your using Windows or Linux)

Maxternal thanks. I have a 4tb HDD Seagate and i can format in only one partition in FAT32 with MBR but not in 512 bytes/sector. I make tests with this drive and works fine with WII games but not working with GC games and WIIware.

okay, thanks. I stand corrected. I looked it up now that you mention it and it looks like it acutally has a limit of 8TB when formatted to 32k clusters
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/184006
which makes me wonder if it could be bigger with larger clusters ... but actually finding something bigger to test on would take some work.

Cyan I have wii with cios d2x 4+. The HDD was formated for FAT32 with 32k (not permit to format in 512 bytes) with 3,7 tb HDD free space. I use only one partition on FAT 32 and when i test both USBloader gx and Wiiflow GC games and wiiware dont working. I use a emunand and inject wad with showmii. For wii games not problem. Usb loder gx show my GC games and Wiiwares but the games not working.
