Thanks but I'm having some problems. I can load old games just fine, but new games like Wii Play: Motion and Kirby's Epic Yarn come up with disc read errors. What can I do to fix this, I'm using NeoGamma R9 B50.
Do the retail discs work from NeoGamma?

Got a question: can you play gamecube backups on newer black wiis via USB loading?

I know that the old ones can play those by the dvd disc drive, and that the newer ones cant.

Short answer: nope.
Long answer: there was a project which was cancelled due hardware limitation, so currently no way possible. There is something which works with a SD gecko called swiss, you will find the thread in wii hacking.
edit: too slow

contrary to what the others said you can load GC from USB
while you can't do it via a softmod curently,
hardmods (eg wode) can do it.
ppl tend to forget them coz they're out of fashion

Hi, total newbie here. I've followed the ModMii guide, installed the Homebrew Channel, and got CFG Loader working. The only problem is that there are no covers on the main screen, even though I downloaded them in WiiBackupManager. When I select to download covers in CFG Loader, the Wii crashes. How can I fix this? Thanks!

Are you running Cfg through your SD card?

Try installing the lastest version of the d2x cIOS its v6 and make sure you have an up-to-date version of CFGI'd suggest v69d or higher. That should fix your crashing when downloading covers. Assuming your having the same problem I used to have when running CFG off of my NTFS formatted Drive.

You can also move the covers you downloaded with wii backup manager to the folder on your SD card Or HDD. I believe the directory is SD:\usb-loader\covers or USB:\usb-loader\covers

Yes. I formatted my USB drive as wbfs, so I moved the Cfg app to the SD card. Would it be better to do it the other way, with the USB drive formatted fat32, and running the app from there?

I don't know anything about cIOSs. I used ModMii to do everything, and I did it just yesterday, so I assume that the files it downloaded should also be the latest versions. Here is the list of files it had me install, from the guide it generated:

CODE
ModMii 4.6.1 Custom Guide
Generated on Sat 07/02/2011 - 10:58:07.94
Check for updates at tinyurl.com/ModMiiNow

This Guide was generated using the following parameters:

* Wii is currently a virgin (un-modified)
* Current firmware is 4.3U
* Desired firmware is 4.3U

* Download Extra Brick Protection
* Do not update active IOSs (can be enabled in options)
* Do not Install a cMIOS (can be enabled in Options)

* External Hard Drive to be Formatted as FAT32
* Download Configurable USB-Loader
* USB-Loader Settings and config files saved to USB Hard Drive

...............................................

Your unique list of wads to install are as follows:

* IOS11v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS20v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS30v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS50v14889(IOS50v4889[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS60v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS70v16687(IOS70v6687[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS80v6944[FS-ES-NP]
* cIOS202[57]-v5
* cIOS222[38]-v5
* cIOS223[37-38]-v4
* cIOS224[57]-v5
* cIOS249[56]-d2x-v6
* cIOS250[57]-d2x-v6
* IOS58-64-v6176
* USBLoader(s)-ahbprot58-SD-USB-v9-IDCL

I'll try formatting the USB as fat32, running Cfg from it, and if that still doesn't work, copying the covers manually. If you see any way that I can make the download work from within Cfg, please tell me how to do it. Thanks!

You used ModMii, but formatted your drive as wbfs? WBFS is considered obsolete, and FAT32 is recommended by ModMii. Your config.txt file probably points to your HDD for covers, since you moved the location. Cfg crashes if you point to an invalid location for covers.

I still recommend you use your SD for Cfg because it is faster, but whether or not you switch your HDD format, you need to edit the config.txt file.

Open up "SD:\usb-loader\config.txt" and look for lines that say something like:
CODE
covers_path = usb:/usb-loader/covers
covers_path_2d = usb:/usb-loader/covers/2d
covers_path_3d = usb:/usb-loader/covers/3d
covers_path_disc = usb:/usb-loader/covers/disc
covers_path_full = usb:/usb-loader/covers/full
"usb" might be "usb1" or something. Just delete those lines and save changes to config.txt. See if it works then.

I just used ModMii to update all my IOS/cIOS's, and then when I went to MIOS Patcher, it told me hash: BAD at the end of the line. I have current loaded IOS249 and MIOSv5 supported boot method version. Also when I go to the GC Backup Launcher, my multi-game GC disc just makes the screen scroll in black and white and restart again. How do I load in IOS236 to make it work?

Yeah, ModMii originally directed me to do the USB drive as FAT32 and install Cfg to it. It didn't work (because I had the stick in the wrong port, as I discovered later), so in an attempt to make it work, I reformatted the drive as wbfs and tried again. I used the correct port this time, and Cfg worked great (except for the covers) so I left it as wbfs.

Now I have again formatted my drive as FAT32, installed my games to it, but put Cfg on my SD card. It works fantastically, AND the covers download! Yay! Thanks for your help!

Hi everybody. First of all, thanks for all your hard work!

So I'm currently trying to set up a new HDD I bought today (WD My Passport Essentials 500GB, listed as compatible) with USB Loader GX. I'm using WBFS for Mac OS X. This is the first time I've attempted to do this on my own, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I followed this guide and formatted my entire HDD to FAT. I then connected the HDD to my Wii and loaded up USB Loader GX and got this message: "No WBFS or FAT/NTFS/EXT partition found: You need to select or format a partition." and then the options "Select," "Format," and "Return." I clicked "Format" and then I select the only partition on the list, which is called "Partition 1 FAT32: 465.73GB". I then get this message: "Success: Partition: 465.73GB Formatted!" Immediately after clicking "Ok," I get this message: "Error: Failed to open partition."

I was just told by somebody at #gui-usbloader-chat to update my cios to d2x v6, which I did successfully, but it didn't change anything.

So now I'm stuck. I've been searching this error but I'm not coming up with anything. Does anybody know what's wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Format your drive as FAT32 and try Configurable USB Loader. Some versions of GX are known to cause HDD corruption, and Config has much better compatibility anyway.

I plan on using Neo Gamma. So, do I need to format my storage device to be WBFS ? And, will this work with micro SDHC card + SD card adapter?

Make sure you have your usb drive pugged into the bottom port when your wii is laying flat

Hi,

Earlier today I was running Sonic Colors from a DVD-R with Neogamma R8 beta 1 just fine, but then I installed a couple of WADs, did some region changing (which I've put back to default since) and now the DVD-R won't work anymore and I've no idea why. Neogamma just says "DVD read error 1020", so I tried uLoader instead, and that one said "Error -2". I've tried updating to version 21 of Waninkoko's cIOS 249, but that hasn't solved the problem. I'm watching a Simpsons DVD on the system right now, so I know DVDx is still working properly. Can anyone help me to get that DVD-R working again?

Edit: Now I've tried using Trucha Bug Restorer, getting a new cIOS, and updating Neogamma (R9 b50, d2x56v6 (249)). It still won't load the disc!
