More questions:

What is WODE? Wii Optical disc emulator. This is a Modchip (Hardware Mod) that is capable of loading Wii and GC games from Disc and USB.

What is Triiforce? A program that is capable of loading VC/WiiWare games from an emulated NAND (a NAND dumped to the SD card basically).

What is Trucha bug? A bug in the security of the Wii that allows us to run unofficial code

Thanks

What are IOS and cIOS? I know cIOS is "custom IOS" and whatnot, but what're they used for and are they necessary? An IOS is a piece of software. They are used for many different things: Some are used by the System menu, some are used for games, others for channels, ....
People started to experiment and modify IOSs, which resulted in Custom IOSs. These are capable of running other kinds of stuff (aka homebrew) which wouldn't normally be possible.

What's "base" IOS? Every cIOS is based on a specific IOS. That IOS is the base IOS

What's cIOSX? cIOS with an unknown number (aka it could be cIOS36 or 48 or ...)

After softmodding via either of the sticky methods, what files should be constantly updated when available? ie. backup loader~
Depends, how up to date do you want to be?

Thanks!
Thanks for the reply!

So.. like are the later/newer IOSs replacements for the older ones or do you still need some of the older ones for certain functions?
^ Same question with cIOSs.

Like.. keeping up with the latest game compatibility, potential memory leaks, improved performance, etc etc.

One simple question before i buy and finally join the Wii family.

Is there anyway that i can tell if a Wii has a D3-2 chipset from just the box? As in can i know straight off the shelf? I have been reading online that there is no possible way to tell other than opening it up or by guessing if its relative to a certain list of other serial number or if its a black wii. If anyone can confirm any of these it would save me a lot of troubles.

Since i have no intention of running any USB loaders, just the backup channel

Recently, I was playing SMG 2, and I was at the last bowser galaxy, and everytime I finish off the Hammer Bros, it says the disc could not be read.

It is an sort of AP Patch?, or it is just my wii?

I can go an play any other world, but when I come back to the last bowser galaxy, after I finish the Hammer Bros, it just says the disc could not be read

So i need to convert .iso's to .wbfs for use on a FAT32 drive. What is the best way to do that? Is there a program to do it with a gui, or do i have to do it by command line?
You can use Wii Backup Manager! It also has a GUI.

I'm having some trouble getting games to work. Can anyone help?

My setup is as follows:
Softmodded NTSC Wii
NeoGamma r9 beta38
cIOS57rev19 slot 249
4gb SD card
320GB Western Digital External HD formatted to FAT32

I got New Super Mario Bros to work a few months back without any trouble. Though after this update, it doesn't seem to be working anymore (I was using NeoGamma r8 before).
Anyway, the new games that I am trying to use (Madden 2010, FIFA World Cup, Lego Harry Potter and Trauma center) all do not work. I burnt the ISO's all to discs but they wouldn't load.
I've tried researching this for the last three days, but could find no answers that solved the problems. I've literally spent 12+ hours trying to figure this out....
I've tried scrubbing the ISOs and reburning them, I've tried using an external HD, I've tried converting the ISO to a WBFS file and putting it on an SD card - none of these things worked.

I'm going to try to go back to NeoGamma r8 and see if that does anything for NSMB But I would love to play these other games as well.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Do I need to get additional patches for NeoGamma? And if so, Where would I find them?
Do I need to do anything to the cios? Should I use a different one? Which one?

Thanks!

It was the newest version I could find by checking around the internet....is there a different version I should use?
Anything else I can do?

Test with a usb loader see if the games work. Convert the .iso to .wbfs with Wii game manager and put the .wbfs file onto a FAT32 USB PEN/Drive in USB:/wbfs/

Play the game from CFG loader and see if it loads. If it loads then you probably have bad media. Try getting some verbatim DVD-R discs.

You should be using the latest versions of neogamma. Use cios249 (rev17+).

Ok, I got it all figured out...

First, I installed Darkcorps v1.1 and that installed like a charm. I'm still on System Menu 4.0, don't know if that helped or not.
So, some of the discs will launch right from the disc channel. Most of the ones that were not working previously now work via the disc channel.

Turns out that the ones that didn't weren't scrubbed or anything, just the raw copies. So I fixed those up and converted to WBFS and they are launching beautifully from CFG Loader.

Thanks for the help Riley.

Greetings, GBAtemp community.
I've been leeching off you guys for a great deal of time now, by reaching your useful posts through Google searching.
It feels good to actually interact finally. I hope I manage to be a slightly more than useless as a member.

I write for a problem I have with usbLoader GX.
It works flawlessly on my Wii from the SD, but I want to install it and can't manage to - wad manager pops out an error message, "-1029".
I know for a fact my version of Wad Manager and usbLoader are ok, I managed to install them just days ago on a friend's machine - and one of those dead drive 4.2 new ones too.

I'm using cIOS 249 (and I guess it works fine since NeoGamma does - I have rev19 installed).

Pal Wii, 3.2E (gotta love it), Wiikey.

Is there a way to install the non-wad version of usbLoader? Maybe that could be a workaround.

I tried installing the Hermes cIOSs that usually come with usbLoader, but it's a no go, they give errors - it makes sense, since the loader itself works fine from the SD so it's not like it's not finding 'em.

Also, problem might have to do with the fact that my Wii has been modded continuously on a "I don't care what I'm doing, just make me play game X without updating" basis, so it might be somewhat cluttered - Wad Manager made it sound like it stopped because it thought it didn't recognize something it was working with, it said something to the effect of "bad checksum".

Ok, thanks a lot if you read this wall of text... I really appreciate any help. Thank you!

The best Wad Manager you can use is YAWMM. This Wad Manager works with nearly any IOS and cIOS without errors, give it a try, choose your IOS249 for installing, this IOS works perfect. If you want to install Hermes cIOSes, you will need cIOS249 v17 or lower, otherwise you will get the hash bad error.

Thanks a lot, Fix 94! I didn't expect such a fast response, you've been very kind!
I can't wait to give it a go. I'll post results.

EDIT: Confirmed to be working perfectly. Thanks bro!

Say I install the UBS Backup Loader. Do the ISOs run from there or do I have to burn them into DVDs? Please answer ASAP I really need the info.
