Hi there. I'm totally new to PSP modding, and I need some help with modding a PSP 1000. This one belongs to my cousin, and they paid someone to mod it. So, I don't know any details about the PSP's modding history. But from my modding attempts using the guide, it seems to have been downgraded when it was first modded as I couldn't update to 6.60 when I flashed an OFW 5.00 using Hellcat's Recovery Flasher. I had to pay someone to mod it again using a Pandora's battery and ended up with a CFW 5.50 Gen-D3.

TL;DR. I have a PSP 1000 with unknown history. Prolly have a patched Key 5 and am currently on CFW 5.50 Gen-D3.

I've already made Nand & Keys backup using NandTools. I've also fixed (according to KeyCleaner) the PSP's keys. However, there was a warning that unpatching key 5 may cause a brick. So, my question is, will unpatching Key 5 while on CFW 5.50 Gen-D3 brick the PSP? And if it would, what should I do to unpatch it? Btw, updating the PSP directly to 6.60 doesnt work cause it says the PSP's currently on 9.90.

isn't the fix for this just to set the USB Device setting to a non-default value and edit a file from a PC? My memory is a bit foggy on this one.

You should be fine to unpatch it with Keycleaner...iirc the bricks occurred when Key 5 was fixed on consoles running the 1.50 Kernel (because patching Key 5 was required to allow those 1000's to use it, and so by unpatching it they couldn't use it any longer and bricked)

Since you're not using the 1.50 kernel in your current firmware you may as well fix it and then update. If you're worried you could always make a nand and key dump first.

Thanks for the help guys! Finally able to mod it to 6.60 PRO. Changed the version to 5.50 in the version.txt to be safe and flashed a clean 5.00 again using Hellcat's. Everything went smoothly this time. Thanks so much!!!
