Hello,

I've bought a GBA SP AGS-101, but instead of coming with a backlit screen it came with a frontlit screen.

So, how can I know if the mobo is from an AGS-101 model?

Here I post some photos of my GBA: http://imgur.com/a/Lj6CC

I've compared the mobo to another GBA SP AGS-001 I have and I only can see that in the AGS-101 there's a chip that is smaller than the one on the 001 mobo. That chip is the one that has "JAPAN" and a combination of numbers written on it.

I hope someone can help me.

Checking the screens is the easiest way to determine if you have a frontlit or backlit edition like Dionicio mentioned above. If your gameboy was sold as an AGS-101 through ebay get your money back, if through other means...sales, flea market, ect...your on your own. Case swapping is done all the time. I see it online, but the sellers will mention its frontlit to avoid trouble.

I removed my AGS-101 motherboard and took some closeup pics for reference:
