Hello, I am a noob but, I wanted to play SSB. Do I need to update it through eShop or do I have to find a cia update online? Also, do I need to download the latest update only or all of them one by one?

After that, am I allowed to play online?

Any updates you need just get them through the eShop while on Emunand playing online is safe and no different from having a retail cart.

yes, it is safe.
The worst that can happen is you using an out of region cia, and the eshop fails to update, but the game still keeps itself
