So I'm running into the "failed to launch" error when trying to run a few of my VC/WiiWare games from the SD card. I have read in this thread that I need to patch iOS80 in order to fix this. Using ModMii I was able to get the file titled 'IOS80v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP]).wad'. I have MultiMod Manager and I'm not sure how to install this now. Do I just use MMM to install it like a regular wad or do I need to do something regarding iOS236? I usually install my wad files using iOS 249 as the default iOS58 never works. I'm not sure what iOS236 is.

Okay I found a little info on this and successfully patched it. I'm going to post how I did it here for posterity since I had trouble finding this info.

1. Download and run NUSDownloader.
2. Go to Database --> iOS --> iOS80 --> v6944.
3. Check the box at the bottom that says "Patch iOS".
4. In the box that pops up, check the box that says "Trucha bug" and click OK.
5. Click the disk icon that indicates "Save As..." and type a name for the WAD, then click OK.
6. Click on "Start NUS Download!".
7. Two files will be generated, the original WAD and the patched WAD. Copy the WAD with ".patched" in the name to your SD card.
8. Open a WAD manager from the Homebrew Channel. I used Multi-Mod Manager (Commonly referred to as MMM).
9. The default iOS for MMM is always iOS58. WADs never install for me when this is selected. I switched it to 249 as I do for everything. It may be different for you, I don't know.
10. Select "WAD Manager" from MMM or whatever the equivalent is in your WAD Manager app.
11. Browse to the patched iOS80 WAD located on your SD card and install it as you would any other WAD.

Done. Now all VC/WiiWare games can be moved to the SD card and run as they should.

Man you did things the hard way. Just use modmii's wizard instead of manually doing all that. But hey, there's something to be said to learning things on your own and I respect that.

Btw installing IOS80v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP]).wad from modmii has all 4 patches. I'm not sure if NUS downloader will do all 4. That being said I'm not sure if it matters

I actually started out using the ModMii wizard (which definitely would've been easier) but the post I found on patching the iOS80 with ModMii was old and I found a more recent Reddit post from about 4 months ago where someone used NUSDownloader. Again, the instructions were pretty vague (like Use NUSDownloader to patch iOS80), but I figured I'd better go with the more recent post since I have no idea what I'm doing. I actually had that exact WAD file on my drive and was on the brink of installing it haha.

I did as you said but now I get a black screen and can't get into vWii mode on my WiiU anymore, I already had patched all the the IOS for some other things.

If you did exactly as written, you installed a Wii IOS80 which isn't compatible with Vwii, you'll need to reinstall a Vwii IOS80 in some way (for example by creating and installing an enhanced vwii wad manager, or with some other WiiU mode homebrew that probably exists)

I tried that everything but the aggressive mode, but it either doesn't work or I keep getting a message about "cannot open mlc sys update" and sometimes bring me to the Wii U settings screen, though from what I understand that's because I turned it of in Aroma. Is it safe to uncheck it for this?

You have updates disabled, probably by deleting the ''update'' folder. I believe you can use UFDiine to restore the folder.

I am trying to do that but whenever I press the A button nothing happens, absolutely nothing happens, I can only leave the program and return to the Wii U menu, I have disabled Aroma (latest version btw) from booting automatically but I can't get it to unblock updates and I am not sure which screen your are supposed to press the buttons to do so (to unblock the updates that is). I have tried sometimes to do - + at the same time at every screen untill the Wii U menu but I don't get any message of updates being unblocked.

Why does it need to update anyway to finish unbricking it? Couldn't they have just put it in the Deincaffinator program?

Do you have ISFSHax installed by any chance? If I remember correctly there's a wafel_plugin that blocks system updates.

vWii wads are copyrighted and can't be shared, so you need to download them from NUS which is what Decaffeinator does

No, I only installed the apps that come with Aroma by default, on the vWii side I only had saves (all legit + Homebrew), channels (WiiWare and official Nintendo ones) installed through a wad installer, and beyond that all I did was install WiiLink24 and the things for Priiloader (so some of the IOS files before hand). The MMM wad installer wouldn't install the patch whatsoever so I tried Yawm ModMii which I had used before on the others, that one DID install the patch, then after it was finished I went back to the Wii menu only for it to give a black screen. interesting enough, I have a Nintendont forwarder on the Wii U side (and vWii) and if I select that it gives a error screen instead of a black screen. But either way I can't use anything on the vWii side.

If for some reason you can't create the update folder with UFDiine, perhaps you can try creating the folder manually using ftpiiu and a PC. The folder should be located at: /vol/storage_mlc/sys/update.

I put on Ftpiiu on the sd card but funny enough the updates blocked message now appeared in the bottom right screen and I finally unblocked it, I also could make a update folder now with Udeffine and deincaffinator works now, aftterwards it still sends me to the Wiiu system settings where it says you should update (the Wii U system one I take it). Is it really safe to do so? Possibly losing the vWii is one thing but losing the whole fucking system would be really shitty

Yeah it is normal. After decaffeinator deletes the vWii titles, it sends you to the Wii U settings. From there you just perform a system update. It will detect the missing vWii titles (for example, IOS80) and will reinstall them. I assume your Wii U side is on the latest version already?

I think so, I updated it a few months ago and put Aroma on it

I tried to update but immediately get a error code 105-4069 saying it's "unable to connect to the server"

That error means your Wii U couldn't connect to Nintendo's update servers. Restart the console and try again. If you have Pretendo, disable it. If it's still happening, make sure you don't have anything that can block system updates.
