Hello. I have 2 ps1 consoles. One older SCPH-1002 that doesnt spin discs, and a SCPH-7002 that does read discs. Both are unmodded, and both are PAL (I live in Sweden). Im pretty sure my SCPH-7002 model doesnt work with disc swapping, so i thought of putting my 7002 disc reader in my 1002 model, and then use it to play burned discs. I do not want to mod any of my consoles. My question is, would it work to change the drives around, or is it the drives themselfs that are "patched"?

All PS1s can do the "double" swap trick (as well as use a swap-facilitating disc or parallel port accessory)

A drive is a drive (although they vary in physical shape and cable direction, so you can't probably swap them between those 2 consoles) - disc verification is done in the mechacon, with an added second check in the bootrom for certain models (Japanese consoles and all slims, iirc)
