In order to downgrade a 3.50 PSP you will need the following:

- Original LUMINES UMD (UK, US, JAP, (Korean unknown), Platinum will work too and Best.

- If you have a 3.10,3.11,3.30 or 3.40 firmware psp update to 3.50 and then use the available downgrader.

If you have 3.51 firmware you will have to do the pandora trick, i can't help though cause never had to use it.
If you have 3.30 you will need the - Original GTA LCS (any region), which should have the 2.00 update on the disc.
If you have 2.00 - 2.80 you will only need a ms and the downgrader.

it will most likely be over 3.0 so im trying to get a gta umd which is claimed to have the 2.0 update on ebay right now

You honestly don't know any one that has a PSP that's already downgraded, a friend, neighbor, cousin...no one? The newer Pandora utilities are all automated now, just load the program on the custom firmware PSP...put in a memory stick, the battery, press go and it'll perform all operations. As long as it's not a slim, you don't need a second battery. You can use a single battery and then just change it back when you are done.

Not everyone has a 2nd battery lying around to use the Pandora Battery trick.

Not to mention that there's no need for Pandora's Battery with most version of the PSP firmware. The older, the better!
OK...what the hell are you talking about? You can buy a new battery for like 99 cents. Then, the older the better? Dude...stfu.

Anyways, just use Pandora, or that Spanish program DA made. Depending on which kind of PSP you have ( Slim or Phat ) defines which one you need.

it's a phat and no absolutely no one with a custom frimware (my nayborhood(how do you write that?)isn't very game interested (i live out on the country lol))

edited: sorry i meant it's a phat not a slim lol

You don't need any games, just get the El Despertar del Cementerio.

http://www.dark-alex.org/despertar_cementerio3.rar
Readme of the despertar_cementerio3.rar :
This proccess is very dangerous, and you should *just* use it if it's your
last chance to get it working.
Why the hell use this as there are downgraders.
Many people claim to have some problems with those unbrickers ...They are not downgraders.
Use a downgrader if your firmware allows you or the pandora trick if not.
Don't use despertar_cementerio3 as it is your last choice.

Only the nand flashing is dangerous. 99% of people will never need to flash their nand so it's not an issue. Despertar Del Cementerio. (Wake up The Dead, heh) is the newest of the universal unbrickers and will work to flash any psp (monster or slim) to 3.71 m33-2.

LIST of people offering to create pandora/Despertar Del Cementerio battery & mem stick sets for free.

Lumines is the best game to get if you want to use a game exploit, as there are no patched versions of it (outside of japan). any firmware 2.81 and above can be upgraded to 3.5 from the official site and then downgraded with lumines. Then install m33 (3.52 -4 or 3.71 -2).

Jobs a good 'un.

btw ignore the guides on the net - they are written BY retards FOR spastics. Just read the readme with any app you use, amd follow onscreen prompts.

Why (the hell?) would you say such a thing? You are taking a part of a readme out of context... what the readme is trying to say is (separators added to make it a bit clearer)...
QUOTE
 {-----------------------------------------------separator-------------}
- Press X to install 3.71M33.
 {-----------------------------------------------separator-------------}
- Press O to install original 3.71 (rest of the process as the X option)
 {-----------------------------------------------separator-------------}
- Press [] to dump nand to nand-dump.bin. When done, psp will auto shutdown.
 {-----------------------------------------------separator-------------}
- Press L+R+HOME+start to restore nand from nand-dump.bin

This process is very dangerous, and you should *just* use it if it's your
last chance to get it working.

This is a physical restore process (not a logical one), and will try to make
a 100% exact clone of the dump.

If you are working with a dump that isn't yours, you will get either a brick
or a corrupt idstorage, depending on the firmware.

If while you are restoring your psp have got any damaged block more than
when you dumped it, you might also get a brick, depending on what block is it.
 {-----------------------------------------------separator-------------}
You'll note the first 3 options have no warning comments. The warning is only about 1 specific option found in the program, which is doing a raw NAND restore.... basically you must have a dump of your specific PSP's nand (not someone elses), for it to work - and it is a last resort method simply because new bad blocks can and do happen in any flash memory. (Also, raw nand restore is the only method available on completely bricked slim PSP's currently, so get a dump of the NAND before doing anything to one of the new style PSP)

Using it to "downgrade" to 3.71 custom firmware works fine, and for the old style PSP using the original pandora works great to easily get to 1.50, or even 1.00 if you know how. It's not always the only option, and certainly not recommended if you already have a homebrew capable firmware and want to update, but definitely: using it (des.cem.v3) to install a custom firmware from official or even from a brick (or even using hellcat's epbm to run a custom firmware installer for 3.52 or lower) works just fine.

I'm sorry, do you have a problem?
You should strive not to be so easily excitable. It will help you in life.

Now, as for the older the better, just to clarify for the original poster; the older the official Sony firmware you have on your PSP, the easier it is to turn it into custom firmware.

I've already posted for you a link that describes what to do in various firmware version situations.

As for a 99 cent battery, I'd love to see a link for one of those.
I'd buy it in an instant.

You only need ONE battery as the PSP can function normally connected directly to its power supply to restore the battery!

Ok I did tried the restore nand dump thing on a bricked PSP but it just made it worst! Now my psp wont turn on at all with pandora! Dose anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

all this hacking is putting me off ever getting a PSP, why is it not simple like the DS? i certinly can't afford to buy 2 psp's and the memory cards are expensive too.

=/ Seriously, in your situation, all you need is the pandora battery and magic memstick which are just lying around in ebay.

I've never tried the exploit with games but pandora just makes things sooo much easier, I flashed my newly bought slim psp and playing with custom firmware in minutes.

Why did you even need to restore nand dump? if it was bricked then all you needed to do was probably flash it back to fw 1.50 first to see if it was still working (and not a hardware problem).
Try connecting the bricked psp to an AC adaptor first, then make sure the magic memstick is in, place the pandora battery in, then turn on and disconnect ac adaptor.

how easy is it for a person who has no knowledge of how to flash a psp or how to do anything basically, something you may do in "minutes" i will find difficult as i have no idea what the hell i am doing, there is so many video guides, forum guides out there that say different things and ways to flash them i don't know what to believe, on top of that buying a retail psp i have no idea what firmware it has when i get it either which makes the situation even more difficult, i wanted to buy a second hand psp (not a slim) but even those are still a bit pricey (not including 4gb memory card either!) i'm gonna wait till the psp becomes obsolete and buy then when they are dirt cheap.

hmm you need to know how to connect a usb cable to a usb slot in your pc, copy files over via those, and selecting the program in the psp and press circle (or cross).
Well that's the gist of it but that's all i had when first got into the scene and started flashing. It is usually safe and you even have the pandora to fall back on should anything went wrong.

hmm dunno what you call cheap but its just about.. $50 difference to a ds?
but yeah 4gb memstick goes around $40 but its going lower since the 8gb are out... you have to get micro sd and slot 1 for ds too anyway.

not when i briefly looked at the prices £50 for a 4gb memory card, a psp lite is going for £140 brand new (not modded, modded £160), i've read that to flash the psp with the battery you have to solder or something, that don't seem noob friendly to me, anyways i've decided to get a already flashed psp lite (purple or blue aint decided yet) on ebay instead, it's gonna take me a long time to save up for it though but at least i won't risk bricking it or something like that.

The prices in UK are way too high, you'd be way better of importing one from the US or something. There a bundle with game/movie/ms1GB is $200 compared to uk's $288 which probably is console-only.

The soldering is only about the battery, and not required if you either have a pandora battery from someone else, or buy the tool battery from datel...
