Hardware PSP 1001 Dead Battery, Debating New System

I've got a PSP 1001 that I bought off a friend a few years ago. I hardly played it, and it sat in a storage for about 4 years without ever being turned on. I recently took it out and checked it since there were some RPG's that I really wanted to play on it. The battery is completely dead, and won't charge past 0%, requiring me to play with it plugged in. It is VERY hard to find an OEM Sony battery online and I have not had any luck. I did think about purchasing a generic battery, but have read on forums that most don't have much luck with them.

So the question is, I am debating getting a PSP 3000 at Target to just eliminate my battery problem and just have something brand new. But it does almost seem like a waste since I already have a PSP 1001 that is in pretty decent shape (everything works, no dead pixels, etc.). Also, the only thing that I am concerned about is that the PSP 3000 is not hackable. I love playing emulators and using ROMs on the PSP. For PSP games, I have UMD's for everything so a UMD drive is a must. Also, some games on the PSN such as Final Fantasy 7 really appeal to me (and my PSP 1001 is on 5.50 Prometheus 4, so no PSN). What do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure the 3000s are all hackable, but i couldn't say for sure.
all i know is that 3000s have way better buttons, making controls, specially for emulated games, much better.

Getting 1000 batteries is probably not as easy anymore and they do get old fast, but thats true for original sony batteries as well. So you could just buy a generic one. In two years, I went through a sony original and some random amazon battery, both didnt last for more than 30 minutes in the end.
But at least you'd be save from losing your progress if energy goes out for a moment.

The psp 3000 are hackable but the thing is you can't put perm cfw. if you really want to go to the psn store just upgrade to 6.60 pro-c .

Thanks alot marcus134! I ended up ordering the original battery from the site you posted. I can't go wrong with the original PSP as mine is near mint condition except for the non-working battery!

3000's are hackable, ALL PSP models are. 3k Models are Semi-Perm meaning if you fully power off the unit (not sleep but full off) you need to run a launcher that takes 5 seconds to do so

It is if you dislike keeping your PSP in sleep mode or using Fast Recovery to reboot to the CFW each time you wish to launch homebrew or backups, but it's nowhere near the inconvenience of using the likes of ChickHEN (which was pretty flashy, sometimes worked and sometimes didn't AFAIR) - Fast Recovery is pretty much perfected.

The PSP, unlike the DS, can survive in sleep mode for weeks on end, and re-running the hack is a lot simpler nowadays (you don't even need to run a game or anything).

Well, it looks like I'm going to give my old PSP a try (using both a generic battery I ordered a few days ago and an OEM Sony battery I ordered today). I feel like it'd be a waste of money buying another PSP, especially since it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade to the 3000.

My next purchase may have to be a PS Vita instead!

Not really I keep my PSP in sleep mode and if I need to rerun the launcher part it takes me about 5 to 10 seconds hardly worth complaining about hehe

I'm still really tempted to go pick up a PSP 3000 to replace my old 1000. The local target has them for $100 brand new, which doesn't seem like much. I've been on a PSP and JRPG kick lately and put down my 3DS for the time being to play some Sony stuff.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I hate how the batteries are so hard to come by now. My big worry is that 2-3 years down the road I'll need another and won't be able to find one (whereas PSP 3000 model batteries may be more abundant). But, no need to waste money when my PSP works fine and is in near mint condition!

As someone who owns both there are advantages to the 3k over the 1k for instance the screen, its not washed out and anywhere near as ghostly as the 3k's one, though the 3K does have slight interlacing but I prefer that personally over blurovision of a washed out color screen

But like I say whatever works for you mate I don't see why you can't have both like myself

My generic eBay battery came today. It lasted about 4 hours on the second to lowest brightness setting, and about 2 hours on the brightest. This was all while playing the PSN version of Final Fantasy 7 and my volume was up on the highest as well.

I'm still awaiting for my official Sony battery to arrive. When that does, I'm just going to keep the generic one aside as a spare (it only cost $4, so meh). I'm assuming that one may last a bit longer and be safer too...

Also, I updated my PSP 1001 to 6.60Pro C Fix 3 instead of 5.50 Prometheus 4. It's basically as good as new now!

go buy a Extended Life battery, it should be available in your game store. Extended Life Battery can fit inside PSP1k's battery compartment. PSP2k's 3k's can also use it but they have to use the included battery covers.

Extended battery kit was long off-production. You cannot find one these days.

People needs to stop buying knockoff battery. Seriously. Not only do they not deliver the promised capacity, I have seen a lot of them ended up exploding. Rare instance they can kill the device due to unclean power. Along with computer memory card, this is something one should not be cheapen out on (that includes buying them on eBay).

I ended up giving in and just bought a PSP 3000. Needless to say, I love it way more than my 1000!
