I am getting a ps4 from a friend that knows nothing about electronics. They did a firmware update a couple of days ago and it didnt go very well. It will not boot but I told them how to get into safemode. They have tried to use #6 of initialize ps4 that stops at 99% then says cannot initialize. Though I have installed cfw on some others, I know nothing about playstations. What would be the best course of action to fix this then get a good cfw on it?

UPDATE: They just mesaged me saying they tried option 6 again and it got to 100% and rebooted. There is no display and blue light around the power.

Download the firmware to a usb stick, MD5 it on the stick, use recovery and reinstall FW.

if it’s a HDD issue you need to replace it, then follow those steps again to reinstall FW.

I am not sure what firmware to use. Dont keep up with ps4. I dont know if it is possible to use an exploitable one. Suggestions? Thank you ^_^

Thank you for the links.

Depends on the firmware of the console.
Stick to the same firmware OR aim for 5.05 if possible (6.72 failing that)
Is there a place in safe mode to see what the current firmware is on it? If the firmware is partially installed still stick with what is shown? So, the firmware above 5.05 is not hackable?

@akira022 stick as low as possible. 5.05 is still the golden firmware, and now 6.72 is hackable too.

If you aren’t sure, try install 5.05, it will say “a firmware x.xx or above required”. Go from there.

I think when you go to option 7 Initialise PS4 (Reinstall System Software)' in safe mode it tells you what firmware you need.
I think it says something like 'insert a USB with system software version xxx or above to continue'

You could try that without a USB drive plugged in and see what it says.
