Like i wanted to talk about the NGP hacking
What kind of hombrew do you want to be on it???I think like with the touch screen maybe a iPhone/iPod touch APP emulator??
or even better a NDS emulator, and with the dual analog sticks a PS2 emulator???
or even better,a XBOX emulator,Maybe Hombrew ports of games like PORTAL or Left 4 Quake NGP edition
maybe even a hombrewed OS for it,like we can can use a Windows 7 instead of LiveArea thingy
so with that we can use like photoshop on it??
What do you think???HORRAY FOR NGP HACKING!!!! :yaypsp:

FAIL, I doubt it's even gonna get hacked for a long time even after release.

No one knows how long it will take to happen(trust me it will happen). Don't get too excited.

Let's forget when or if it'll happen... just especulate about the possibilities.

There's a very big potential on this portable. I think it can emulate all the things that the DS and the PSP had difficult of doing, like SNES or Genesis (some games). PS1/PSP will be there since day 1, so I'll not count that... N64 should be easy too. GBA, GB, GBC, I think it can emulate it too.

In the end, it only depends on how well coded the emulators are.

If they include a Linux app on launch, expect the NGP never to be hacked. Ever.
If not, well it depends on Sony. Security will be much tighter than PSP or PS3, and it'll have the hardware power to enforce any security protocol they choose.

A similar story for Ninty's 3DS - they claim it'll have the best security ever seen on a Nintendo device (for all that's worth), and they actually need it to be strong and successful if they hope to stay in the gaming game (they're not doing too well on the Wii, despite its popularity).

If the NGP doesn't get hacked I probably will just stick with the 3DS and get myself a PSP 2000/3000.

How about just buying games and leaving the homebrew to the other consoles?

Then again, if Sony cater for homebrew applications (e.g. via Linux) and allow us to run any emulator we like whilst keeping security tight, then maybe NGP will never encounter piracy and all parties will be happy (except for those who just want to pay nothing for any PSP/2 games like before).

Haven't we learnt anything from the PSP?
You hack a console, people pirate, developers lose interest and no new games come out...
Hopefully, this thing can't be hacked, or can't run retail games until it's 5 years old at the very least.

    I think that's called "DS" syndrome...or "DSP" syndrome...or "PSS"...forget it...
Well people are too lazy to buy games so they just hack and pirate them, at least that's what I have learned from my past experience. People will do whatever they can to get something free. Though I won't complain, I appreciate playing backups of games I no longer own, and I'll be that way forever.

I am pretty sure there are several new psp games that just came out. Even more in Japan where the psp was a lot more successful. It had a slow start and just couldn't compete with the ds outside of Japan.

True, but there have been cancelled projects that piracy can be a factor of.
I'm sure Sony have learnt from their past mistakes.
GO was unhackable until recently when the secret keys were revealed. Sony will not be so blind as to not fix this issue, so at least home-signed content won't run. I'm all for hacking and free games, don't get me wrong, but it did ruin the PSP's game roster somewhat.

I'd say the main thing that ruined the psp rosters was the ds. Easier to develop for, larger install base, and extremely successful in all regions.
As for piracy it didn't work well early in the psp's life due to memory stick size. Plus one of the first ways to pirate was an actual modchip. It wasn't cheap and it wasn't easy.
    Edit:Spelling

I dunno, the DS got pirated a crapload as well, and there were a bunch of bigger, more ambitious gaming moves that could only have played out on the PSP.

I bet some kick ass emulators could be ported over. Maybe even perfect N64 emulation is possible since the NGP is touted to have "the same power" as a PS3.

To be fair, the NDS is like the second best selling console of all time. Every time I see someone that has a DS (that isn't one of my friends), I never see a flashcard. Me and my 6 friends are just a drop in the bucket. I was amazed when I went into Gamestop after the Holidays, their DS shelf was empty. Just about completely. New, used or whatever, and their systems were sold out as well.

Well the NGP has about 3 times the processing power of my laptop, and my laptop can run N64 on full speed and Wii on playable speed.
The only thing is RAM, i'm not sure how much it has.

I'm pretty sure it would have more than enough ram. Especially since n64 emus kinda work on psp.
