I'm getting really tired of the "piracy makes developers lose interest" thing. ALL CONSOLES AND HANDHELDS ARE HACKED RIGHT NOW and developers are still making great games. The truth is that many people don't even know about piracy, and even more who do are too stuck up (not saying that in a bad way) to do it. Case and point: the iPhone. Something like 15% of iPhone owners jailbreak. And many of that fifteen percent want to pirate. I think it's also something like 10% of Wii owners. And many don't pirate.

And if you still aren't convinced that piracy doesn't hurt sales, consider the following:
COD Black Ops is both the most pirated and best selling game of all time.

Back on Topic:

If it can emulate the PS2 I will be extremely happy. KH2FM on a handheld? Very yes. But it's kind of doubtful.

Stop making these wat if ngp gets hacked, or anything dealing with it please. It still isn't out so we are not sure what can and cannot be done on it.

I can see one running a gba emulator but a ds emulator? I highly doubt one would be usable you know with it needing two screens and splitting the screen on it will make the games all cramped. But my main question would be is this the death of UMDS? I usually only hack my psp to play emulators and so few games come out for it that i play i just usually by them. I suppose the main thing here would be whether the hacks would use the SD card like the wii or would it install like the 1-3000 series.

I think DS emulation would work on the NGP,like the PC emulators,it splits the screen to two parts and you have the touch screen,D-pad,4 buttons and triggers

People love to speculate on the possible features of upcoming hardware aimed at nerds. Let us nerds have our few months of hype and dreaming before the NGP is actually released at the end of the year and we're all disappointed in the lack of games we get at Christmas.

PS2 emulation and it's an instant buy from me. And of course N64, PSX and GBA is welcome too, I would definitely be more interested if this gets hacked than if it won't be hacked any time soon. Only vice so far is the battery time which is just too less for my liking.

If you dont like the battery time, then just place it in the charger while playing, you wont go gaming around with a 5 inch handheld in the streets for sure

No, but I will definitely use it on trips in the car, chilling outside or playing everywhere in the house, where I don't have access to a charging point.

Hotz v. SCEA
...Exactly what has that got to do with NGP?

It's Sony...

pretty much...

fucking sony controls everything...

if any hacks are made for their "new and precious and oh-so-irreplaceable" NGP.

they will send out their fucking lawyers and sue and C+D all the hacks and the hackers...

imagine how less power Sony would have had against the consumer if they didn't win that goddamn lawsuit.

I'd say the main thing that ruined the psp rosters was the ds. Easier to develop for, larger install base, and extremely successful in all regions.
As for piracy it didn't work well early in the psp's life due to memory stick size. Plus one of the first ways to pirate was an actual modchip. It wasn't cheap and it wasn't easy.
Edit:Spelling

????? that's totally untrue!

devhook .2 was released August 29, 2005 (source: http://www.psp-hacks.com/2005/08/29/dev-hook-v02/ and also while not the first version, it is still a very early version)

the ONLY modchip I know that was EVER released was the undiluted platinum... and that was released 2006.

@stanley, Sony won't do a thing to anybody trying to hack the NGP. They didn't do a thing to the people actively hacking the PSP. I've said it before, but Sony are only suing Hotz because he published the PS3 private key on his own site under his own name - painting a big red bullseye on his chest. He's an easy target, so Sony are using him to set a precedent for suing F0F, the actual people who hacked the PS3.

Anyway, that's all PS3 drama, and will have no bearing on the NGP, which is still in development and won't be out for some time yet. Nobody has any clue what security it'll have, so the Hotz case will have no impact on the NGP in any way, shape or form.

This doesn't belong in the PSP section of the forum.
