Gaming Project 64k using Saves on Netplay?

On my Mickey's Speedway game, I have everyone enabled in it, and I've passed on the save and rom to my friend. we are able to play each other, but the save won't load, so we are stuck without the secret characters.

Anyone, know how to use a save while playing on netplay?
