I've googled the phrase, tried to reword it, and I've got no idea how to do it:

I have MMM, but it always defaults back to IOS 58, at which point I have to switch it back to 236 to do anything.

Is there a program that switches IOS around for me? Automatically that is, I have the means to do it manually but if I don't know the correct IOS then I have to go look it up which kind've defeats the purpose of an IOS manager.

I've got MMM, and Priiloader installed, as well as the IOS that ModMii wanted me to install. Is this all I need?

I noticed the set of instructions I followed didn't mention the d2x installer, is that included in ModMii?

IOS58 is the one you should select.
if it doesn't work, then it means your program is too old. update it, or use another one.
or you are using an old HBC (1.0.6 or older) or not using IOS58 in HBC (press Home button to see if you use IOS58 in HBC)

I suppose you want a wad manager?
use this one :

and do not select slot 236. use 58 and everything will work.

Modmii install d2x cIOS.
You don't need to change anything.

After install, there's no need of a program to "choose IOS slot automatically", each program already uses the one it requires.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
