I installed the exploit with the Blue card, no problems.

Then I tried to trigger the exploit with the Yellow card by clicking on the profile like I saw it in all those tutorial videos and like I read in the HowTo's.... no dice. It just produces an error. "An error ocurred, the system will now shut down..."

I tried it with a Fat32 and exFat formatted microsd, all files in the root of the card.

My question: did I do something wrong, or did someone sell me a broken MT Card?

I'm on a 3DSXL with 4.4 firmware.

Sure, everything in the root of the sdcard, like I wrote.
The launcher.dat goes on the root of the big sd card in the side of the 3ds not the micro sd in the mt card. If you set up properly maybe try reinstalling the exploit and if not try using gateways files and launcher. I don't know I heard you can launch mt card with gateway launcher I could be wrong tho

That is how some people bricked their 3DS systems. If you even dare try this please make a good NAND backup first.

I am completely new to everything 3DS, how do I make a NAND backup?
Install the exploit with the blue card, then launch the Gateway software off the SD card and select the NAND backup option. I would make sure you check the hash of your NAND file to make sure it backed up properly. This way if anything goes wrong when you use your 3DS for roms/homebrew, you will be able to restore your NAND and not have to buy a new overpriced 3DS on eBay.

Ok, I managed to enter the MT card menu, but when I tell it to go to MT Card mode or Classic mode It goes back to the 3DS menu with no game showing, sometimes it gives me an error and shuts down the system.

Have you tried updating the MT-Card firmware using a microUSB cable? If you have and it's still not working, try re-formatting, start over from scratch. Re-install the exploit. Also make sure when you click the DS profile you have the 3DS's "L" button held down.

i had the same issue, you need to update the card by connecting it to pc with micro usb cable and download mt card updater v2 from mt website.version 2.0 include all instructions.

Updated to 2.0 (although it already was on that version), still nothing.

you did a right move bro, make sure you have at least 1 game (ex. abc.3ds) on the microSD card (inside MT Card). After enter MT card mode (and yes it go back to 3ds menu, it's normal), press select your game will be shown.

You have to push select button to see the gamelist when you'ra back on home menu

Now after I tried a few dozen times, a game finally showed up on the 3ds menu, but after I tried starting the game the console tells me the cartridge has been removed (which was not true), back to the 3ds menu... (where, again, no games show up...)

That does it, the cart is broken.

Send it to Nintendo. I am sure their service centre will fix it for you. Or you could just recycle it.
