I'm playing through SoulSilver again on my DSL, and I got to Olivine City. The game froze on a black screen, but the Olivine City music was still playing. I turned off my DS, turned it back on and rebooted the game, but still no luck. It goes to a black screen after I click on my save game, and yet music still plays. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Maybe there is a problem with your rom or gamecart you are using.
If you are using a rom what flashcart and firmware are you using?
I'm running SoulSilver from the original game cartridge.
Then maybe the game cartrige has a problem then.
Why not try cleaning the contacts maybe that can help.

Cleaned off the cartridge contacts, blew in the cart slot on the DS, but still the same results.

It HAS done this before (I had to start a new game two or three times for it to actually load to something other than a black screen). Now, I try to start a new game a few times, but to no avail.

Do you have a flashcart?
If you do,its best to just start a new game from there.

No I don't, I was kinda wondering if there might've been something I was overlooking to get the SoulSIlver cart fixed. Do you know what might be causing this issue with the game?

I actually have heard of this happening. Its unfortunate, but I don't remember there being a fix for it either. Maybe you can trade it for a working copy at a second hand store or something.

Can i ask does every other game function perfectly on the ds? If not! I suspect that one of your cartridge pins inside the ds could be partially bent. If every other game does work fine, i would be inclined to purchase some neat alchohol or acetain and rub the contacts of your cartridge thoroughly. As you said the game has done this previously, if it was a damaged cart i have never heard of one not working then deciding to work on its own.

Hope this at least gives you a few ideas.

Good Luck!

Every other game functions properly, and I've tried to clean this thing in every way possible. Looks like I'll have to buy a new cart. :(

I would call Nintendo and bitch at them for selling you a faulty working product. Then demand they the replace your faulty cart for free.
Yeah that might work.
I understand the problem of you losing your save file though :(
It's fine, I'm used to losing it, though I shouldn't have to. Well, I'll give 'em a call and let ya know what happens.
