Can someone please (pretty please) spell out what someone on Menu 3.2U and 0.29 Preloader needs to do to prep for Preloader 0.30? Keep in mind I have never used Dop IOS and the idea of patching a critical file worries me a bit - but maybe it's not so bad? Thanks!

in order to run any version of preloader, your system menu IOS needs to be trucha patched and ES_Identity patched (using DOP-IOS or DOP-IOS MOD). To find out what IOS your system menu runs on, see the following link (http://www.wiihacks.com/general-homebrew-hack-issues/24575-system-menu-versions-ioss.html). Using DOP-IOS is pretty straight forward, if you use DOP-IOS MOD, choose to use IOS249 before "dopping" your system menu IOS.

but if you're already running preloader 0.29 (or any version for that matter) then you're fine, then your system menu IOS is already patched the way it needs to be. So you can just install/update preloader 0.30, and if you have problems afterwards, see my post above for the solution

Wii WON'T START ON AFTER INSTALLING PRELOADER 0.30??? SOLUTION HERE!!!!!!!!!!
-I've posted this twice already and ppl are still asking, so listen up and spread the word!

-hold reset as wii is powering on to access preloader
-go to homebrew channel
-uninstall preloader by reinstalling your system menu wad (look into NUS downloader if u don't know where 2 find this)
-run nand clean, say yes through ALL the steps (totally safe, done it a thousand times)
-your wii is now preloader free... time to fix that! Reinstall preloader 0.30 (or 0.29 JODI), be sure to hold B as you press either + or - in order to run the installer using IOS249.
-1 PROBLEM SOLVED

wrong. your solution is only a solution if it makes the app work as advertised. the app is advertised to work for installing over previous installation including older versions, which is not what you are asking people to do.
right now the app description is incorrect, it is relatively likely to fail at "updating" an existing installation.
I'm sure the fix won't be impossible to do, but if this is going to continue to be listed as a feature, than it is a bug until it is fixed.

just installed the new .30 over my old .29 jodi version.

everything works just fine.

Only problem i had was after installing it and selecting system menu it went to a black screen with 4.2USA in the corner of it.Its due to a hack being enabled for some reason. The hack was set to disabled in .29 but when i installed .30 it was set to enabled.

It may help others if you said what hack it was.

Its one of those.I believe its the second one though causing it.Same thing happened when i installed preloader .29 jodi version.

Recovery Mode (D-Pad Up 4th GC) or Force Standard Recovery Mode

After it happened i just went into the hacks menu and disabled everything and saved it.Restarted the wii and then went back into the hacks menu and enabled what i wanted. In the preloader .29 jodi thread it was discussed and someone said it was caused by the hacks in the ini getting moved around but still being enabled or something.I think xxzero explained it to me but i don't remember the definite answer

aha all that explaining for nothing?!

aha the basic explanation is that when you use a different hacks.ini file, the hacks slot changes, but whether it was enabled or not stays the same.

so you have had block disc updates enabled, but with the new hacks.ini it could have to changed to something completely different like force recovery mode.

the basic solution is to disable every hack, save, restart, enable desired hacks, save.

well i can confirm it updates preloader .29 to .30 successfully

It updated my preloader .29 to .30 without issues as well.

Could the issue be updating the older .29 haxx preloader versus the .29 jodi preloader?

Very nice update! Upgrade from .29JODI with no problems! Works like a charm! Thanks phpgeek! I alsolike the GUI change! It's not much but it does refresh it quite a bit. Thanks again! .30 is great!

there is a very good chance.
it seems all the JODI preloader updater's updated without a problem.

i dont know about the regular preloader users though.

Unfortunately, I seem to be experiencing a bug though. I know the program is still in the testing phase, but I'd figure that I'd let you know, since I don't think anyone else has reported it yet.

At first, Preloader 0.30 worked great for me, but now my Wii crashes (shuts down) upon boot.

I've found that the bug is a problem with the "Shutdown to: " option as if I set this to preloader, it goes to preloader instead of crashing.

My guess is that preloader is assuming that my Wii is returning to preloader, rather than booting to preloader. Perhaps this problem could be linked to the new settings file or something? I've tried resaving all of the settings, but still, no dice.

Just throwing this out there. Hopefully you can fix whatever's causing it by the time you release the source

By the way, is anyone else experiencing this problem? I think I started to experience it after I saved my settings through 0.30....
This bug still exists

. I think it has something to do with the settings, autobooting to a dol, and having preloader set to off all at the same time. This bug was introduced with the new settings, as it works fine on 0.29.
im haveing the same problem wwhen drying to boot boot.dol files it just turns the wii off to stand by whats the bug all about

xflak40 - Thanks for the info about Dop-IOS and whether or not I needed to patch the IOS. You were right: since I had Preloader 0.29, I didn't need to do anything IOS wise on 3.2u. I just installed 0.30 right over 0.29 and all hacks seem to be still in place and all I did was install Crazy intro again (maybe I didn't even need to do this) and reconfigure some settings. I did first try seeing if there was an Update in 0.29, and sure enough it makes mention of 0.30, but when downloading the Changelog - it freezes. Guess there were so many changes, the Wii's network couldn't handle the load and it froze in fear. Anyway, all's well in 0.30 - so thanks to all involved in its production!

Well excuse me for helping people get 0.30 working on their wii's. Whether or not it can 100% correctly update an older version doesn't REALLY matter, what matters is that it works half the time, and if it doesn't work, you're not bricked, you can still access homebrew, uninstall preloader the old fashioned way, then reinstall it using the 0.30 installer. Granted it would be nice if preloader uninstalled everything the way the nandclean+sysmenuwad method can, but common man... cut the coders some slack, they'll work any "bugs" (if you can call them that). And as always there's a workaround... look up and you'll see it!

are you referring to the gxforwarder.dol?????

I was still on 3.2U with Preloader v0.28 and CiosCorp installed. I officially updated to 4.2 then ran xzxero's 4.2 upgrade guide. When trying to install Preloader v0.30 it was getting the Got root/aborting mission error. I tried holding B and then hitting +, that didn't work. What I did to get it work was to first install the v0.29 JODI preloader, then immediately installed the v0.30 preloader while holding B and it installed just fine. Got the list of 4.2U hacks from Wiibrew, put them into hacks.ini and every worked great.

Thanks for the great update, loving the new Preloader!

sorry to do this, but i read throughthe entire topic (well skimmed) and didnt see an answer. I just used this progam and it installed fine (boots upwhen i hold reset, goes into HBC thankfully) but it doesnt sem to recognise the SDHC card. i updated my hacks.ini but it wont read the new hacks just the ones it previously had installed, and if i try to install a dol it just says "SD Card not found." id i install it wrong, or is this a bug for now thats being fixed?

FINALLY ive gone down all 9 pages. here is what i have to say

you got ios 60 or higher and are those used in preloader?

MY BETA TESTING IS OVER... I HAVE GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS

the good news is, after running nand clean and reinstalling my system menu, I was able to reinstall preloader 0.30 and get it working properly (before it would just turn off right away, unless reset was held).

the bad news, for some reason my wii freezes on a black screen (stays on though) when trying autoboot to USB Loader GX (I'm not the only one).

the forwarder dol file I am installing is gxforwarder.dol and can be downloaded from here (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nykt4zyndzq).

If this issue can be resolved, I would say that 0.30 is superior to 0.29 is every way (instead of 90% of the ways). I know this may seem minor to a lot of people, but being able to boot to usbloadergx is the coolest thing about preloader, I really hope it gets fixed.
the dol loading in preloader is very buggy. at least the wiimote bug should be fixed in 0.30
EDIT: all dol loading i tried so far worked so idk ... :/

Sorry if I missed it somewhere, why Blue/Black on White?
It's DacoTaco's version with Phpgeek's installer/uninstaller.
it was actually crediar who changed that. i still need to see how to change it back >_>

PS: phpgeek, we still need to talk lol
