I'm running on 4.1e and have bootmii functioning. I had installed the HAXX version of v.29 only to find this thread. I already had installed cIOS38rev13 so I assumed I had a valid IOS249. I DLed sysmenu 4.1e and the latest IOS60 from NUSD and installed them using WAD Manager v1.4. After that happened I could no longer load system menu but Preloader was uninstalled. Luckily I have bootmii so I'm still able to get to HBC but I can't load system menu at all. I tried to diagnose my problem and found that WAD Manager required cIOS36rev10, so I installed that. Then, I uninstalled IOS60 and System menu and reinstalled them. I still can't load my System Menu.

I'm fairly new to hacking so I'd love some help on this as I prefer having System Menu than not >.<
( I can still play brawl+ though n_n )

Rule #1, don't uninstall an IOS (unless you really know what you're doing). You can install overtop of an exiting IOS. I think you're problem is you need a patched IOS60. When you install Preloader it automatically patches your IOS60. To do this without installing preloader, either google IOS60patched.wad and install it, or use DOPIOS to patch it.

Run Dop-IOS v7 or above
• Press right until you see IOS60.
o Press A to select yes to install and Sig Hash Check.

So I can just use DOPIOS and patch IOS60 or I can go over the top with a patched IOS60 myself?
I'm going to patch it without DOP-IOS

Edit: By the way, I still have the hacks.ini and preloader folder on my SD card. Should I delete them before patching IOS60? Or could this solve my problem all together?

Edit: I tried to install the patched IOS60 but ever since this problem my wiimotes don't sync. I don't think they will sync at all until I get System Menu working. So, I'm forced to use DOP-IOS for this but I'm baffled as to how to install this thing. There are no instructions at all.

Edit: I started DOP-IOS to find that it required a wiimote as well. I still can't get my wiimote to connect after searching for solutions and I'm getting somewhat frustrated. Should I just restore my NAND in bootmii?

Quick help would be so very much appreciated.

try using a gamecube controller, if that doesn't work, then restore your nand

I've tried using a gc controller but WAD Manager and DOP-IOS both require a wiimote.
I'm going to go ahead and restore my NAND then. I put the keys.bin file and nand.bin file in the root of my SD card correct? Is this sure to solve everything?

Restoring your nand will make your wii EXACTLY how it was when you made your nand backup, so assuming everything working alright when you took the backup, it will work fine. Also, you don't need to have keys.bin in the root of your SD to restore your nand, its useful to hold onto but its not actually used in restoring your nand (keys.bin is actually appended to the end of nand.bin and used to decrypt/encrypt your specific wii's nand).

Sorry if this is obvious. If you take the NAND backup before updating to Sys Menu 4.2. And then restore from your NAND that will obliterate 4.2 ? I guess it will but just wanted to clarify.

and why would you want to do that?
i see no point in doing a system upgrade just to downgrade/restore

if your wii bricks because of the boot2 update then there is no way to downgrade/restore (and downgrading is always a stupid idea)
if your wii works fine after 4.2 update then everything (homebrew included) will work fine if you know a bit what you are doing... lol

Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing it just wanted to understand exactly what gets restored, i.e. what the NAND actually consists of.

everything
nand = the "hard disk" (the nand is actually flash memory. and therefor not a hard disk" )

@xflak40 : lol those ppl fail. just like you. why dont you tell the guy to check what version of boot2 he has and then tell if the update is a good or bad idea?

let me get this clear:

if you already have boot2v4 there is nothing to fear...AT ALL

and if you dont want to update you dont have to unless nintendo is going to force you to do it (they actually can lol )

Okay, well I'm at school right now but when I get home I going to restore my nand ( by putting the two bin files in the root of my sd card and restoring through bootmii ). Since I have bootmii installed as boot2 do you advise that I go ahead and install the jodi preloader?

bootmii as boot2 is the ultimate brick protection, you do not NEED preloader if you have this. There are other reasons for using preloader though, like system menu hacks and making your wii boot to something other than the system menu. The hacks can also be done by startpatch instead of preloader (but you cant use both preloader hacks and startpatch's at the same time!). The only reason I have preloader is because I like being able to boot directly to my usb loader.

some people don't want to have to perform a nand restore when they have a banner brick you just boot preloader and uninstall the offending wad and your sorted

You can still do that with bootmii (ie load bootmii, load homebrew, install your fix). So u still dont need preloader to do that if you have bootmii. Another thing I like about preloader is that it has wiimote support unlike bootmii (good for lazy ppl like me, lol).

At first I was going to use preloader for region free gaming seeing as I didn't need it for brick-protection but I realized that you could enable region free gaming in Gecko OS and I'm sure it's in some USB/SD loaders (if not then I suppose I have a reason to install preloader). I was also going to use it so I could change the theme of my system menu but apparently mymenu and mymenuify do the job. And lastly is there anyway to have the bootmii screen appear rather than the Preloader one- or would that defeat preloader's purpose? Bootmii is much more aesthetically pleasing and it's nand capabilities are nice.

I'm really anxious to get home and restore my nand I just hope that this fixes my wiimote syncing issue. Do the wiimotes use an IOS to sync up or are they dependant on the System Menu IOS?

Sorry for all of the scrub questions, and I appreciate the help.

to boot directly to bootmii, first make sure bootmii is installed as boot2. Then it should boot to bootmii automatically. If it doesn't then you might have edited the bootmii.ini file (saved in sd:/bootmii). To fix this, download and use bootmii configurator, and turn disable autoboot (this will boot to bootmii). Are you sure you want to boot 2 this everytime? You realize you can't navigate this menu without using the buttons on the wii or a gamecube controller (if installed as boot2)

guys I think accidently installed the wrong preloader and know my files have 'System Corrupt' error message, don't worry I can still access bootmii as boot2 and preloader but HBC doesn't seem to load up. Is there anyway I can delete preloader?

EDIT it's alright sorted it.
