Hi guys,

I just released my humble mpv/ffmpeg "pPlay" video player for the PS4. There's probably little bugs around but overall it work fine :)

You'll find download links in the release page on GitHub. While it need to be updated for ps4, be sure to read the readme here.

Finally, I'm not sure if this is allowed so feel free to delete this message but im seeking for donations to buy (or get) a ps5 and start digging/developing on it. If you can help with this PM me or donate here ! :)

To be transparent, here is the current donation status (goal: 500€ !). Please put a message in the donation form or pm me if you don't want your name here! Many thanks to the donors, this money will be well spent in ps5 development. Also, i'm not used to this but maybe i should open something like "this" for even more transparency ?

I have tried only with 1080p H265/HEVC and it works like a charm! May I ask you what to do with the subfont.ttf file that's inside the release zip?
Hi,

If you want subtitles to work you need to put this file on your hdd ("/data/pplay/mpv/subfont.ttf").

Hi, i'm sorry but i did release a new version again... I will be away from home for the next few days and i think it's a major fix, here we go: pPlay 3.8
  • ps4: correctly fix some clock/sync problems (previous "fix" was running all videos at 60 fps, they now correctly sync at video fps as on other platforms)

Sorry for bumping old thread but
@cpasjuste could you add root access similar to ps4explorer? I really want to be able to watch videos from burned bd-r ( root access needed to access /mnt/disc). Ps4 accept burned disc if pkg is on filelist.

Also @cpasjuste when the file got to many subtitles, that subtitle menu get buggy. It doesn't follow my intention of going down looking for my desired subtitle. It just show the first 7-8 subtitles availables.

It's been 4 years since the last update so we'd be lucky if we'd get a new update, I've been using the app for years and am pretty happy with it even though there's features missing.

I read Lapy is working on a new media player? I'm very interested trying it out when released.

For me, pplay 4.03 only plays embedded subtitles on some movies, on others it won't no matter what. It's a shame bc everything else is brilliant. I hope this is solved (or someone else knows how to solve it)

Find a ttf font you like name it subfont.ttf. ftp to your ps4 and place subfont.ttf in /data/pplay/mpv directory. That will will act as system font for OSD and subtitles. I have no problem viewing any type of subtitles, pplay has a pretty extensive support for subtitles.

There a many other font configurations read the readme.txt file if you want pplay to display non roman characters.
