Sadly I need Facebook Messenger to communicate with some friends, family, and classmates, but don't worry, I hate it too. Especially since it became a Snapchat clone.
I feel you. Maybe try a web client or, if you need instant notifications, Messenger Lite.

New wallpaper, switched to Modded Pixel Launcher, and changed the system font to Google Sans

Nice painting my girlfriend did for me including my music idols John Lennon, Johnny Borrell (although he looks a bit like Jim Morrison) and Noel Gallagher.

Pie update for my phone finally came out. Still considering if I should stay or just get a custom ROM.

Based on your status bar and the apps on your home screen, I'm gonna guess your phone is running Android One, in which case you're probably better off sticking with the stock ROM until they stop updating it.

Just curious, how can you tell? I have the exact same apps and icons on my Pixel 2.

The status bar has the stock Android icons instead of an OEM ROM's themed ones, and he's also using Google apps (Google Phone and Android Messages)(although the latter is something you can do on almost any device, some people like keeping the apps their OEM ROM comes with).
