Also hate: I'm packing up to travel. I tell the laptop to shut down, not only to save power but so the hard drive is as safely parked as it can be when I throw it in the car and rattle away down the shitty roads with it (why yes this is an old story featuring an old laptop with mechanical media). Windows says "you know what actually, I know you said shut down, but instead I'm gonna spend the next half hour churning the hard drive to its limit installing more updates you don't want." Who needs control over your own property, right?
