Porn Industry Threatened by World of Warcraft

According to an article by The Daily Beast's Richard Abowitz, online games like World of Warcraft are one of the top five reasons porn-for-profit is dying, and it all comes down to staying power.

Most of the reasons presented in the article make perfect sense. Fans paying more for sex with porn stars than film companies, piracy, and the lack of the taboo that was once associated with porn are all valid reasons the industry is losing steam, but online gaming? According to porn starlet Belladonna's husband Aiden, online games are serious competition.

"It is all entertainment that you are getting involved in the same way as porn is entertainment," said Aiden. "I won't say everyone, but a lot of people in the industry play videogames. The games are competition for porn. Fans jerk off to porn and are done, but you can keep playing a game."

This seems like shaky logic to me, no pun intended. I always thought of porn as something to look at while waiting for a rare mob to spawn, or while waiting for your raid group to assemble, or during a particularly long griffon flight.

In other words, there's always room for porn. At least where gaming is concerned.

Besides, Whorelore (formerly World of Whorecraft) taught us that gaming and porn can go together hand in hand, so to speak.

Well the people who play the game prefer the animated characters to fantasize than a real porn star and Belladonna is meh in my book anyway. Also, with some photo sharing sites allowing 18+ content to be posted who needs to pay for porn when you got the view all sizes, copy, and paste functions to get it for free.

Not when they are adding new content every couple of months and expansions once every couple of years. We have seen two WoW expansions in 5 years, a 3rd coming out later this year and probably closer to the games 6th anniversary which is near the end of the year. I know people who have been playing it since the beginning and still enjoy it, I have been playing on and off for a couple of years and like it cause there is so much to do, however it gets to a point where things get repetitive. I spend more time working on achievements since I am level capped and raid geared, assuming I play during the daytime.
