I think you are confusing a few things here... the WiiU was/is basically an "overclocked" Wii. (Okay, actually, 3 Wii's stapled together with a slightly better GPU attached.)
The Switch is based on an entirely different chipset - it's a bit like comparing a laptop with a smartphone. This thing will have a completely different capability profile, when compared to the previous few generations.

Slightly better specs on a different architecture.
With the same amount of shit games.
Splatoon 2 being the only interesting one + Seasons of Heaven being a title worthy of playing.

Yeh, it still is just an overclocked Wii U to me.

well i think its cool as well as the titles announced for it, however paid online is bullshit and im really disappointed they went this route, as well as the goddawful accessory prices that need to be 70% cheaper, but im still gonna buy it regardless and can see this as a second chance for ninty, if the paid online is like $20 a year or lower and the accessoies are halved at the very least

You're using hardware terms (overclocking being a hardware term) to describe software points (gaming library being software).
The core thing here is that they are better specs on a different architecture. That last bit makes one hell of a difference in terms of what it is capable of under the hood.
Nintendo has always used old and/or under-powered chipsets, but now it seems like they have made the switch (haha) to more modern chipsets. Something I personally am quite excited about.

GCN was more powerful then the PS2.
They didn't always do it like that.

Nintendo is a dying company.

DS VC, you've got a 3DS/DS for it?
Smash, same as the 3DS + pretty much same as the Wii version? < never cared much for smash.
Treasure tracker and Splatoon are amazing games, I agree.
MK8, well... it's MK so it'll sell anyway.
Rayman legends is also on the One and PS4, so that's moot.
Pikmin, never understood the love for it.
Xenoblade... I haven't even finished the Wii version ;/

Aside from Splatoon, MK8 ad Treasure tracker, you still end up with an amount of games you can count on both hands, if not one hand.
The Wii U flopped, even Nintendo admits it.

The GC used a PowerPC, the PS2 was MIPS-based. You cannot directly compare them.
Yes, the GC had a higher clock speed, but PowerPC chipsets need higher clock speeds to do the same amount of work. Plus, since the instruction sets and speeds per various operations and optimizations are completely different, it is impossible to make a direct comparison and say one is definitely better than the other.
Also keep in mind the GC released more than a year later, and technology used in the PS2 was already outdated by that time (tech moves fast!).

If technology was moving so rapidly, why isn't Nintendo making a killer console that completely obliterates the PS4 Pro and Scorpio together?

Because that would be a very expensive console.

Since you are clearly just trolling and not trying to have an actual discussion, I'm going to stop replying to you from now on.

There's no shame for Nintendo make an expensive console (PS2 at launch was expensive, PS3 was also expensive, 360 and Xbox same story)
By producing cheap consoles and using severely underpowered hardware (720p in 2017? REALLY!?) you're bound to get negative feedback.

Face it kiddo, Nintendo is done for.

I think they aren't really directly competing with Sony and Microsoft. Instead, they are making their own competition by innovating. Remember when all consoles are focusing on graphics? Then Nintendo just said, fuck it, let's go with under powered console but with motion controls.
Then PS3 followed with Move and Xbox with Kinect.

Just my 2 cents.

Nintendo: Motion controls, succes!, Lets go with a tablet controller!

We all know how that turned out..

Innovation isn't everything.
Especially in todays world where everybody is getting 4K displays and more and more resources in their phones/computers.

Except the tablet controller on Wii U is still fully dependent on the actual console. The tablet this time is the console itself. Controllers are in the form of JoyCons ala Wiimote.
So no, tablet is not the controller for Switch.

That was for the Wii U.

I just got a feel the Switch will suffer the same fate as the Wii U.
It'll sit in many family's living room, untouched, gathering dust.

Was Wii U a necessary failure?

I don’t recall who said it but, one of our executives said something similar — I think it might have been Mr. Miyamoto, the last time he was here in New York, where he made the comment “I hope consumers look back at Wii U as a necessary step, in order to get to Nintendo Switch.” Which is another way of saying what you did.
the wiiu had to fail so they switch could prevail...LOL WAT?!!

dude man, nothing against you, but i read alot of negativity towards Nintendo from you.

i am not a fanboy of any console, i love gaming and i buy the consoles that have the games i want to play, the Wii U flopped and you still have one or maybe more than one correct?

it flopped but i love the games that were out for it, do i regret shelling out the 460$ on the mario3d land deluxe edition (+ SSB4/MK8 Bundled) ? Heck NO, i love the console, the Wii U is good , surely no where near as good as a PS4 or a Xbone, but it still does have its game that plenty of people enjoy.

the Switch sure no way near as good as a ps4/xbone with the tech direction thingie, but it will have neat games, the screen of the switch (720p) yes even smartphone nowadays have 2k/4k displays.

but the Switch Screen at 720p will look sharp and good enough, it will all come down to the games for the Switch and the 3rd party support stuff.

i hope it will do well, and i am certain that you do NOT dislike Nintendo, i am sure you too want it the Switch to succeed.

Having had the opportunity to try the Switch today I have to say that I'm pleasantly satisfied with it. Not so much with the Joy-Cons but thankfully the Pro Controller exists. For the sake of comparison, the Wii U GamePad had a much better and real D-PAD, buttons, shoulder buttons and digital triggers properly done whereas the Switch Tablet's Joy-Con are miniatures compared to it.

The Joy-Cons don't even have an actual D-PAD. The analogue stick is crap.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Maybe it's just me, but I get the impression that people want the Switch to fail
I don't. Just don't like some things about the Switch and how Nintendo is handling, but to counter that, they made other options so we're not totally forced to use that and that only. It's not like the Wii U GamePad taking the console as 'hostage.'
