Poll: Will you install the NS2 day 1 update?

Hi there,

this poll is only for those who plan to stay on a low firmware and keep their Switch 2 shelved until a potential exploit is found.

Will you install the day 1 update which allows you to play Switch 1 games and use SD Express cards? Or do you plan to keep your device 100% "vanilla"?

Thoughts:
- Not updating might lock you out from future exploits since you can't use Switch 1 games and SD Express cards.
- The day 1 update might patch an unknown vulnerability.
- You might still be able to install the day 1 update offline later down the line by using physical cartridges like Mario Kart World.

Genuine question.... Why are there multiple polls and questions about this? Who actually cares, is it a decision making process on your part?? Are you a ninja doing market research???

It's gearing up to be sold out at launch due to everyone keeping one in a drawer

I'm simply a bit lost. I read both topics at the temp, heard different opinions and now that the launch day is coming closer, I'm really not sure what to do. Currently I think I will just set the whole thing up, delete my internet settings and put it back in the box.

I hoped to get a clearer picture of what the common consensus is. I wasn't aware of other polls.

Cool... I was genuinely curious about the decision making process as I have seen it everywhere not only this site!

I honestly couldn't comment though due to A lack of interest and B lack of funds... Possibly not in that order I was always gonna wait about year before deciding to get one for myself however my son wants one so..... Day 1 update for him I guess!

There is no consensus. No one has a crystal ball. Personally I find it highly unlikely that it will matter either way. The existing leaks show it runs HOS 19.x.x out of the box which has no known software vulnerabilities. My recommendation is always to use and enjoy your Switch 2. Spending time trying to guess what may or may not happen in the future is a waste of time.

I think I'm probably going to use my first one as normal and leave the second one sealed, no update. If there are no hacks within the next couple of years then I'll sell it sealed before Nintendo does a refresh/OLED model.

I'm certainly not expecting any decent, easy S2 exploits and CFW to be available within the next few years. So I will update my Switch 2 and play my games comfortably.

Yes. I dont think updating day 1 will cause some issues from future exploits. They are enabling some options with it, so it makes sense to have full feature set before starting to figure out options for jailbreak.

To those saying "No": How exactly do you intend to install an exploit? There's no way to put a SDe card in the console without the day1 HorizonOS update and I really doubt that a SDe-card-less exploit will ever exist.

I will buy one physical game with the day 1 update on the cartridge just because I might need it in the future. This is assuming game cartridges still have updates like they do on the Switch 1.

I'm more inclined not to, but we'll see. I'll avoid connecting WiFi and get to the dashboard.

However, if I have to update to use my Express SD Card... I don't have much options then.

I'm thinking of using a DNS blocker and then unblock it (for game updates). There is the risk of auto system update.

IF there is a CFW solution that resides on an SD card it can live 100% outside of HOS purview. HOS has no knowledge of AMS existance on the SD Card. CFW at the level needed to compromise the system will not care about a card being paired or encrypted by the HOS. As we still don't know the details about what is done when connected to Nintendo's servers there could be an issue with using the card after HOS is booted, but again CFW and a re-implementation of HOS could likely work around any issues there. This is all based on a compromise at the level of the current Switch. Anything below that and all bets are off.
